I'd call THIS a bargain, the BEST I ever had !

I have a Gretsch Renown 5-piece drum set, in Vintage Pearl. It came with a 5.5 x 14 snare. I decided I wanted an acrylic 6.5 x 14 snare. The goal was to get a second snare, but different enough to make it worth the time and trouble. Yowza ! You can spend $700 for a Ludwig Vistalite in that configuration. THAT would be tasty. Then, Black Friday happened. THIS deal happened. When I shopped for my drum set the DW Design Series Acrylic 5-piece drum set came in second. BUT, NOT without some, "what if's." ALL my hardware Is DW and I TOTALLY respect and USE their products. I just went with wood instead of acrylic. Next, let's talk about the Road Runner bag. ALL my drums get stored in the original cardboard boxes they were shipped in. THIS is my FIRST drum shell bag. It is VERY well made. My cats LOVE it ! They won't let me get NEAR it. Since I got this package I have played on the DW snare about 5 hours. I have done countless side by side sonic comparisons between my two snare drums. BOTH are ESSENTIAL. I would NOT give up either. My 5.5 x 14 snare is very BRIGHT. I suspect that it is a trait for shells of this size. Does a 6.5 x 14 shell make a sonic difference ? Does acrylic sound different than wood ? YES .. . yes .. . and, yes ! Too right you are, mate. I did NOT get the impression that the larger acrylic drum was "LOUDER." It sounded SOFTER because a LOT of the overtones are missing. What was astonishing was how FOCUSED the tone was. It is VERY "rock" sounding. However, I tried to play a blues half-time shuffle on the acrylic snare and felt that something was missing. Playing "Fool in the Rain" doesn't sound right. You don't get the "pistol shot" kind of crack with the acrylic drum. For a treat disengage the snare wires. LISTEN to THAT tone ! FANTASTIC. Nothing like that comes out of the 5.5 x 14 snare. THIS is my FIRST acrylic drum. The Sea Glass acrylic shell is Rock Hall of Fame material. WHAT a gorgeous drum !!! I KNOW you've seen pictures on the internet. I'm posting some photos which hopefully demonstrate it's VIBE ! The drum is an eye-catching show piece and I tried to capture that in my photos. Merry Christmas everyone !
