DW

Description

The DW Design Series carries on the brand's custom shop-inspired lineage at price point that was previously unheard of. In addition to new developments and established DW innovations, these drums feature North American maple shells with a wide tonal spectrum with attack, punch and warmth to spare.

The 8-ply tom and kick shells were built with the latest construction technique from DW's shell shop, HVLT. This is not just any shell; it's made with VLT (Vertical Low Timbre) grain orientation with an outer horizontal ply (the H in HVLT) to offer more depth, body and tuning range than the competition. Design Series snares feature 10-ply HVX shells.

Snares include an artist-approved MAG throw-off and all drums feature True-Pitch tuning rods. Finally, DW's popular F.A.S.T. (Fundamentally Accurately-Sized Toms) drum sizing and Suspension Tom Mount (STM) system will ensure these drums are able to resonantly sing as they're intended.

Each drum is finished in one of three durable lacquer colors and fitted with DW heads by Remo. Add in all of these features and you have a kit that's sure to have drummers talking.

Cymbals and hardware not included.

I had a 4 piece performance series which is between a design series and collectors. I saw a 5 piece design series for $799 at GC and decided to trade in my performance. I'm glad I did. It sounds every bit as good as my performance did, maybe even slightly better. It is not a collectors by any means, but then again it's 3,000 dollars less. Plus it's really easy to add on an 8" tom and 14" floor tom to make it a 7 piece kit. Like others have said, you will need a DW SPECIFIC tom stand or DW TOM ARMS ( which run $40 each). Not a big deal though. . I can't say enough good things about these drums.

  • I'd buy this one over 3k kit from another company!

For the beginning model of DW this kit sounds like there collectors. Only kit I've had where out of the box this thing sounds phenomenal. The cons of this kit is DW doesn't give you the Remo muffled heads like they do with the other kits and they don't allow you to customize it with colored hardware like on the collectors. Everything else is fantastic. The free floating shells really do make this kit resonate.

The only thing I have that is negative, is that the sites website says with hardware, and in the details it says without. I spent 3,000.00 in one purchase and I would expect the site to be more accurate. It's kinda misleading.everything else is great though.

  • Great Drums, great price!

This is my first DW kit. At this price I was surprised by the tone! Very easy to tune as I've used them live a few times. Easy set up even if you're not familiar with DW hardware. I had a Mapex double tom stand but the forks were to small for the mounting system on the toms. I dropped under $100 for a decent tom stand. Other than that I would say I got a decent drumset with a good name behind it!

  • be prepared for a lot of work and time to get all the pieces

it does NOT come with hardware to attach the drums to the stands. the customer service - it is hit or miss if you get someone who knows anything. i went through 4 people until i could find someone who could help me anddo some investigating into this and she discovered that the "hardware" description in the title for the drums does not mean the hardware to attach the darn drums which are sold separately but they don't know which ones.

First off, I've been drumming on and off for close to 20 years. I've played a range of drums from, "I can't believe this is a drum set" to high quality and everything in between. I'd been looking for a mid to high quality kit, to really get back into my hobby/passion. I wanted something with a virgin kick and either birch or maple shells. I saw the other review on the DW Design Series kit and was intrigued. I did some research and saw a lot of positive reviews and feedback. I was looking at some other options as well and finally went to GC to check them out. I was lucky to find the Design Series kit as one of the set up floor models. I fell in love with the sound and quality. It was the only one available, so I jumped on the opportunity and have no regrets. Build quality is top notch. The stock heads sound decent enough and after a bit of tuning, I love the way it sounds. My general style of music is rock/alternative/punk, but also play jazz and a range of Latin based styles. The kit is very versitle for a wide range of styles. I'm a very satisfied customer and glad I was lucky enough to purchase the DW Design Series kit.

No. The hardware isn't included. This is just the shell pack.

Can I purchase this exact color set without the snare drum? I want to substitute it for one of your other snares.
