Smooth and simple...

Before getting the 6500 stand I used a DW 9000 series hi-hat and was just "okay" with its performance. The foot plate angle was always a little too steep for my taste and it had some stability issues. But the 6500 has fixed all my hi-hat issues. It's a lightweight and sturdy litte stand, the footplate angle is perfect, and the low profile legs sit low enough on the ground that mic stands and cymbal stands can easily go right over them. Definitely worth the dollars...

Proceed with caution: there's such a thing as too light

The first of these stands I purchased, the tension adjustment right above the foot pedal simply fell off with light playing. It was right out of the box, and it was clear that whoever had assembled it at the factory had stripped the drum key-adjustable part of it and then shipped it anyway. GC got me a replacement, and although it's holding up just fine and I like the lightness of it, it feels more like a toy than like a piece of DW 6000 series hardware, i.e. flimsy. I wouldn't recommend anything bigger than a light pair of 13" hats on this stand, and it should only be played for the lightest of applications. Anything heavier will require a regular double-braced 5000 or 9000 series hat stand.

I have used this twice in rehearsals and it is solid. Nice, smooth action on the pedal and very little wobble when playing (very slightly more than my Tama Cobra, but not enough to impact playing -- and about 1/3 the weight). This stand is a big step towards lightening my load!

Smooth and comfortable, quick set-up & tear down, wobbled a bit under enthusiastic playing, not a problem. Velcro on heel plate a nice touch but unnecessary for me. Also, I cut about 7" off the top rod as I play rather low and G.C. seemed not to know there was the option of a shorter rod.

DW needs to make some stability adjustments. If you play jazz, this just isn't going to be reliable for you. And to watch it wobble around is kind of funny, though some may think you're a hard working drummer, so that may be a good thing =) I'm glad I didn't purchase the entire light-weight set as a kit and can return this. The non-lightweight 6000 is soooo much better. Also, the footprint for both is the same.
