As far as sound goes, these strings are great. The quality you expect from awesome DR strings, makes your guitar sound like butter! I generally play Eb, drop Db, or D standard, btw. But you don't buy black strings just for the way they sound, do you? The string paint along the frets hasn't dulled/chipped or anything, but any part you hit with the pick (or maybe finger nails, if that's your thing) will scratch the paint off with just a couple hours of play, revealing the nice silver of a regular string. Doesn't bother me all that much, but I can see where that would frustrate others. I have an ebony fretboard (ESP LTD EC-1000 Vintage Black) and with these strings, it is very difficult to see the strings in dimly lit areas. Also, had them on for 4-5 months or so, and with regular cleaning, they still sound amazing.

On the quest for the right strings for my guitar, I purchased these because they were black and my desired guage. They sound pretty good for painted strings. However, it doesn't take long for the paint to start chipping off. In fact, my first pack was nearly stripped of the paint after one day. I play metal and use a Jazz III pick. I can't imagine an everyday player using these without going through tons of strings to keep up the appearance. Afterall, why else would you buy black strings? Not worth spending the money. Get the Unpainted Tite-fits or the Clear coated Extra Life.

I have these strings on my Ibenez G10 and they not only enhance the look of your guitar but also play extemely nice. these strings also last A LONG TIME! i've had mine on my guitar for about a year but, i play about every day so it depends on how much you paly and how hard you play. you can make them last longer by cleaning them every so often. overall the best strings you can buy IF, you want black strings.
