Hand-selected tonewoods, including a spruce top and maple back, create a resonant, articulate acoustic voice. The Seymour Duncan 59 humbucker pickup yields warm, singing tone with plenty of character. Grover Imperial tuners, ebony bridge and tailpiece and pearloid inlays complete the upscale cosmetic appointments. Order the D'Angelico Excel EXL-1 today and experience the magic of this modern classic hollowbody electric guitar.
Redesigned Neck Profile Balances Comfort and Playability
D'Angelico redesigned the neck profile on the Excel EXL-1 to achieve the perfect balance of comfort and heft. While still remarkably mobile for fleet-fingered lead lines, the new profile offers a more filled-out feel. The C-shaped neck promises improved handfit compared to previous generations, keeping you comfortable even during extended playing sessions. The 3-piece maple/walnut/maple construction provides rock-solid stability you can rely on. Combined with the smooth 16" fingerboard radius, the Excel EXL-1's neck profile lets you play your very best with ease.
Seymour Duncan 59 Humbucker Provides Singing Tone
The Excel EXL-1 comes equipped with a Seymour Duncan 59 humbucker in the neck position. The 59 model is revered for its warm, smooth voice with singing sustain. From mellow jazz chords to soaring blues leads, the 59 humbucker brings out the best in the EXL-1's resonant hollowbody. The Alnico V magnets deliver heightened dynamics and sensitivity, reacting to your pick attack and enhancing note clarity. Whether comping behind a vocalist or taking the spotlight for a smoky solo, the 59 humbucker pickup helps you express yourself through your tone.
Hand-Selected Tonewoods Create Articulate Acoustic Voice
The EXL-1's all-maple body construction starts with a carved spruce top, selected for its light weight and impressive resonance. The back, sides and neck feature handpicked flame maple, prized for its woody midrange and crisp note articulation. Together, these premium tonewoods create the EXL-1's acoustic voice—rich and articulate when unplugged, organic and expressive when amplified. The thinline semi-hollow body provides the perfect balance of resonance and feedback control for an amplified archtop. Let the EXL-1's acoustic qualities shine through in your playing.
Appointments Reflect Focus on Quality
From its pearloid headstock logo to its ebony bridge, the Excel EXL-1 bears elegant appointments reflective of D'Angelico's focus on quality. Jescar frets promise smooth playability along the pau ferro fingerboard. Grover Imperial tuners provide precise tuning stability to keep you in tune through extended playing sessions. The Stairstep tailpiece works in conjunction with the floating ebony bridge for rock-solid intonation. Gold hardware and binding pay homage to the archtops of yesteryear. With the EXL-1, D'Angelico continues their legacy of excellence.

Quality built & Sounds Great

I recently got into jazz and wanted an authentic sound. Gibson just cost way too much and quite frankly I wasn't overall impressed. I've recently became a fan of D'angelico and this is my second one. So easy to play and the sound is warm and full. It's one of those guitars that motivate and inspires you to pick up the guitar and practice!
Excellent Archtop for the money

Was looking for a good archtop for months and always loved D'Angelicos. This neck is very fast & comfortable. The body has a really big warm and woody sound. It was already setup perfectly, but I swapped in flat-wounds and lowered the action. This is the best < 2K archtop available.
