My first coated strings

I received a smelly-stringed used acoustic guitar as a gift, purchased online. I took off the strings and cleaned it up before making the trip to guitar center. I had no idea which strings to buy, not knowing the voice of the guitar, so I asked. The salesman recommended phosphor/bronze coated, said they were color-neutral and last longer. His favorites were D'Addario XT's, so I gave them a shot. They sound crisp, with a good attack. Picked, they have great projection. Finger-style, is a bit muted, but I used the meat of my sausages, not my nails. Dynamic range is pretty good, though I think it might have been better with an un-coated string. I should have stuck with what I am familiar with to better understand the voicing of the guitar itself.

Owned them for 20 minutes

Brand new out the packing as I was tuning the A string it broke right away, before i was even close to in tune (using an actual tuner, not by ear) No, i didn't over tune. I'm talking in a quarter turn here it was that fragile and unwinded/broke near the top. Whether it's bad luck or a defect I've never had that one happen in 13 years, so I doubt it's common. Actual on a two month year old guitar, so who knows what happened. Oh well, wouldn't recommend based off my own personal experience. I'm sure they sound great when tuned and strung up.

These are a great set of strings for my Taylor 412ce. I want to try D'addario xs strings next. They're supposed to last even longer.

  • I would recommend this guitar to anyone

I don't play professionally but, I have found that these strings are worth the extra money just because they last so much longer than uncoated strings. I've tried the other popular coated strings but they seem to get fuzzy after a few weeks. I've tried alot of strings but, these are the best.

  • Will try these again

These are really good strings for that, especially if you do a lot of note bending.

Hi! I'm replacing my Fender acoustic guitar strings for the first time and I'm not sure where to start. Can you recommend which strings I should purchase from you?
