D'Addario

collapse expand iconDescription

D'Addario's NYXL1149 electric guitar strings represent a revolutionary step forward in string technology. Featuring an exclusive high-carbon steel core and nickel-plated wrap wire, these medium gauge strings are built for maximum durability and articulate tone. NYXL1149 strings stay in tune 131% better than standard strings, allowing you to focus on your playing instead of constantly re-tuning.

High-Carbon Steel Core Delivers Unmatched Strength

At the heart of the NYXL1149 strings is an exclusive high-carbon steel core wire that provides unmatched strength and elasticity. This proprietary core allows the strings to bend farther without breaking and sing louder with enhanced sustain. The steel also has a higher tolerance for alternative tunings, giving you more freedom to experiment.

Nickel-Plated Wrap Wire Boosts Frequency Response

The reformulated nickel-plated wrap wire delivers a subtle boost in output between 1,000 and 3,500Hz, resulting in a crisp, modern tone with enhanced pick attack and crunch. This improved frequency response helps your guitar cut through the mix, allowing your tone to shine through.

Hexagonal Core Wire Improves Intonation and Stability

At the heart of each string, a hexagonal steel core wire provides extra stability, greater reliability and improved intonation. The hexagonal shape prevents the core from twisting, ensuring consistent performance and intonation up and down the neck. This design, combined with the corrosion-resistant packaging, allows NYXL1149 strings to stay fresh longer.

Engineered for Premium Performance

From the exclusive high-carbon steel core to the nickel-plated wrap wire, every element of NYXL1149 strings is engineered for premium performance. These medium gauge strings are built to handle anything from articulate cleans to high-gain distortion without sacrificing tone or tuning stability. Experience the difference premium strings can make - order your NYXL1149 strings today.

Great strings... Just not for me.

The NYXL strings do in fact stay in tune better, bend further, and last longer than any string I've ever used. I wanted to peak my curiosity after hearing all the hype about them and the guitar center sales associate recommended them. They actually live up to everything they say they do on the package (which is a rare thing these days) but the feel and tension just don't work for me personally. I've used ernie ball strings consistently for almost 30 years and they just feel like home to my fingers. The NYXL's are definitely worth trying but were just not for me.

Straight up the worst guitar strings I've used to-date.

Just don't buy these if you're a metal player. Try Ernie Balls, DRs, or something else.

Buy these for my Gibson ES-335 (also bought from GC). Would never put any other brand on my guitar. Why you may ask? Simple. They sound better than any other brand. Better sustain, better ring-out...just better. I will continue to purchase these for all of my guitars. Thank You.

Love these strings. Have been using them on Strat for years, and they rip. Great tone, super strong, and easy to play. I use these 11's on the Strat, and it's hard to even tell that they're 11's because they work so well with my set up and are easy to play. Long lasting tone, high quality, and reliable.

Plain G 11's can be really nice on some guitars. I have them on a semi-hollow Peerless (Bird of Prey). They don't feel heavy at all and on that guitar's 24.3/4" scale (glorious) neck bends and vibrato feel and sound sweet. My current set has a hundred hours or so of play and the NYXL's still sound nice! I switch to lesser expensive strings now and then but keep coming back to NYXL. You have to try different strings on different guitars. I hit a great combination with these!

These are definitely pricey for guitar strings but for how good they sound and feel, and how rarely I have to change them, it's a no brainer for me every time. I use these for D standard and prefer them over the 11-52. #sweepstakes

D'Addario NYXL1149 Medium Electric Guitar Strings (gauges .011–.049) can definitely work for metal, depending on your playing style and tuning preferences. Here’s a breakdown of their pros and cons for metal: Pros for Metal::: Thicker gauge: More tension and punch, great for aggressive picking, riffing, and heavy rhythm work. Better tuning stability: NYXLs are known for staying in tune and resisting string breakage—ideal for heavy playing styles. High output: The NYXL alloy delivers increased midrange presence and output, helping your tone cut through high-gain mixes. Potential Considerations::: Heavier feel: If you're used to .009s or .010s, .011s will feel noticeably stiffer, especially for lead work and bending. Tuning range: These are great for standard tuning or drop D. For lower tunings (like drop C or B), you might want an even heavier set or a baritone set to maintain tightness.

I have been playing electric guitar couple years doing a lot of bending strings and broke my first ever and thinking it's time for new set. What does light, medium, heavy mean when looking at descriptions?

That is the gauge. Most standard strings will be lights or ultra lights, but mediums would be a good option if you're looking for durability.
