D'Addario

collapse expand iconDescription

The D'Addario EXL140 Nickel Light Top/Heavy Bottom Electric Guitar Strings are the top choice for musicians seeking enhanced tone and feel. Made by the world's largest string manufacturer, these nickel-plated steel strings provide a familiar playing experience with their round wound construction, while also delivering a bright tone with smooth sustain and reduced fret wear. The EXL140s are made with a high carbon steel core and nickel-plated steel wrap wire for improved intonation and stability.

Nickel-Plated Steel for Signature Sound

D'Addario's nickel-plated steel wrap wire gives the EXL140 strings a signature tone that is both snappy and smooth. The nickel plating helps reduce finger squeak and fret buzz, while accentuating the midrange frequencies guitarists love. The end result is a familiar, balanced tone that cuts through mixes with clarity and warmth.

Hexagonal Core for Rock-Solid Intonation

At the heart of the EXL140 strings is a hexagonal steel core wire that provides maximum stability under tension. The core's unique shape prevents the strings from slipping during tuning, allowing for improved intonation up and down the fretboard. Players will appreciate how the EXL140s stay in tune through heavy picking or bending.

Round Wound Feel and Color-Coded Ball Ends

With their round wound construction, the EXL140 strings have a comfortable playing feel most electric guitarists prefer. Their color-coded ball ends also make changing strings a breeze by clearly indicating which string pairs together.

Corrosion-Resistant Packaging for Freshness

Each set of EXL140 strings comes packaged in D'Addario's corrosion-resistant packaging to ensure strings stay fresh, even in storage. The packaging helps prevent moisture and oxygen from reaching the strings, so every set feels and sounds brand new.

I play a lot of different styles, and these strings offer a lot of versatility whether I'm playing power chords, riffs or lead lines. They also sound clear and full with our without distortion.

  • Great quality and balanced sound.

I use these on a Music Man Cutlass. The tremolo is stiffer with these strings, but great for heavier sounds.

I'm a huge DR guy, love the sustain and bendability as a blues guitarist. However, when I need specific gauges for random things (10-52 for drop tuning, 7-38 for wowing my buddies, etc), D'addario is the way to go. Definitely recommend.

Been playing for 30 years, don't have a brand preference. D addario have always made great strings. Never really had an issue with breakage. They last a long time, sound great and are usually a little cheaper than Ernie ball or DR.

Tone is great and they are super strong. Great and affordable backups. They do corrode fairly quickly but that's typical for cheaper strings.
