Description

D'Addario ETB92-5 Medium Black Nylon Tapewound 5-String Bass Strings are designed to produce a deep, warm tone while providing a smooth, comfortable feel. D'Addario Tapewound Bass strings are wound using a flattened black nylon which is polished to an ultra-smooth finish.

These long-lasting, well-balanced strings are expertly engineered to provide optimal tension and are gauged to fit properly on standard bass saddles and nuts. Tapewounds may be used on fretted or fretless basses and are designed to deliver a vintage tone ranging from the "thump" of an upright bass to the focused depth of traditional flatwound strings.

My main strings for any and all situations.

These strings are my favorite. I use these strings on my ESP LTD F-414FM bass. That bass has a 35" scale fretboard, so these strings fitted perfectly. They have a consistent tone that works for my needs and wants in the bass tone I seek. They have a great warm tone that works with both finger and pick playing. Lots of bass, but the biggest draw back is that you lose a lot of Highend clarity like that on traditional nickel/steal strings. To those who are wanting to do pick playing with these strings, I would highly recommend you use a thicker pick that uses a light material like nylon or ultex. I broke the nylon off one of my string when I was using a tortex .60 gauge pick. Granted these strings will not work for most people needs/wants, but if you are looking for a string that has consistaint tone and you don't mind a warm sound, then these strings can do you wonders.

Nope

I had not used taped or coated strings for years and now I remember why. Although they sound good amplified and may be useful for recording on my fretless, they just feel dead. I judge strings on how the instrument resonates without being plugged in and these just don't pass that test. Not sorry I bought 'em, but they're coming off.

    Bought a used Carvin AC50 five string bass. Came with some old world flat wounds. Sounded good, but pulled the neck out of shape! I installed the D'Addario tape wounds. Gave it its necessary vibe. Pleasant on the fingerboards to boot.

    I had never tried tapewound strings until I bought a Gary Willis signature bass with Labella strings. Sadly, I had to return it, but when I found that D'Addario made these, I had to get a set. The feel and sound are absolutely amazing, so mellow and thumpy.

    I have a couple old fretless basses and a couple newer ones. I have used these strings for years. They are easy on the neck and sound great. I like the upright sound I can get with these. I also have fretted basses that i use nickel wound strings on.
