I switched from Brand X to these ProSteels since we had a gig coming up and wanted to go into it with a fresh set of strings. We play a mix of classic rock and some 80's hair metal, but nothing too aggressive. Had the 4th string break in the middle of a set, so I got out the backup. I took it home, restrung it with a replacement, then had the 5th string break while practicing at home two weeks later! Back to Brand X for me...

These are great if your playing with a lot of distortion. They really bring the overtones out of the crunch. And the price here is really awesome. I wouldn't, however, recommend these if you need to play multiple styles on whatever guitar they're going onto. Jazz sounds kinda thin, but like i said, these strings really shine on high gain settings. These didn't ever break on me either, even though they are super thin. Strong, brilliant, cheap.
Starting out on guitar? Get these strings.

The strings that came with my guitar were really hard on my hands. I got the Super Lights to give my hands & fingers a break with I learn to play the guitar. The only drawback that I've found with these strings is that you constantly have to re-tune your guitar every ten minutes.
