D'Addario
Description
Classic electric guitar string tone dates back to the 1950s, when pure nickel was the primary alloy used. As the need for brighter tone and higher magnetic guitar strings grew in the '60s, nickel-plated steel became the industry standard. D'Addario XL strings feature nickel-plated steel, but these EPN115 XL Pure Nickel strings offer a warmer, vintage tone alternative which many enthusiasts prefer.

Some things to keep in mind regarding "Pure" Nickel strings: 1) the top 3 strings are steel strings with nickel plating (maybe). 2) the bottom 3 strings are nickel-wound nickel strings (maybe). The difference between these and regular nickel-wound certainly sound different. I do prefer the tone with the Nickels. Hard to describe, but they seem "vintage" -- less high end and warmer. And the wound strings seem to produce less finger noise than nickel-wounds. They "feel" nice on the hands. But how much nickel is in Pure Nickel beats me.

I feel that these jazz/bues strings hold great tone and the test of a thousand+ notes+ bends - they return right back to near perfection, ready to take another cruise in the "sea of guitara".

Do you know if the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd strings are pure nickel, or are they steel?
