D'Addario

collapse expand iconDescription

The D'Addario EJ19 Phosphor Bronze Bluegrass Medium Light Acoustic Guitar Strings are ideal for bluegrass, folk and other styles where a crisp, responsive tone is key. Made in the USA, these phosphor bronze strings are recognized for their vibrant, balanced sound with clear highs, focused midrange and full low end. They feature a nickel-plated steel hex core and are wound with phosphor bronze, an alloy that produces a warm, bright tone and natural corrosion resistance. The medium-light gage offers comfortable playability for most acoustic players. Whatever instrument you play, D'Addario's EJ19 strings will bring out the best in your acoustic guitar's natural tone.

Phosphor Bronze Produces a Warm yet Punchy Tone

Phosphor bronze is a copper alloy containing 92% copper and 8% tin, phosphorus and other elements. This blend yields an acoustic guitar string that produces a tone rich in overtones with an emphasis on midrange frequencies. The phosphor bronze winding helps create a warm yet punchy tone with clear articulation and projection—ideal qualities for flatpicking and strumming styles.

Nickel-Plated Steel Hex Core Delivers Stability and Playability

At the core of the EJ19 strings is a nickel-plated steel hex core wire. The hexagonal shape increases the surface area of the string, allowing for a stronger, more stable core. The nickel plating helps prevent corrosion while providing a smooth surface for the winding. Together, the hex core and nickel plating enable consistent performance, tuning stability and a slick, fast feel under the fingers.

Medium-Light Gage Suits Most Playing Styles

With a gage range of .012 to .056, the EJ19 phosphor bronze strings have a medium-light gage that suits a variety of playing techniques. The lighter first and second strings make intricate flatpicking passages and melodic lines easy to play while the heavier bass strings provide full, punchy chords and runs. This versatile gage works for most acoustic guitarists interested in bluegrass, folk, country and Americana styles.

Built to Last Thanks to Superior Winding Technique

D'Addario employs an innovative winding technique to create strings that have a long lifespan and consistent performance over time. Their state-of-the-art winding machines precisely wrap the phosphor bronze alloy onto the hex core at high tensions, producing a winding that has minimal spacing between turns. This results in a string with a smooth, uniform surface and dense, long-lasting tone. Expect the EJ19 strings to deliver dynamic, resonant sound for many hours of playing.

For years I've used D'Addario strings.SinceIplay Blue Grass, CW, and "Era Folk" music, these strings set fast, last long and can take hard stum & picking. When they do break...they won't necessarily "hit you in the face". You can only get them on-line, so order a bunch for stock ( I order 5 sets @ a time ).
