Perfect Strings For Chord Melody and Jazz Solo's

I have spent over thrity years looking for the best sounding and best feeling strings for the style of music that I play. I was never completely satisfied until I ordered these strings. They have the sweet bell like sound of round wound strings but also, the just ever so slightly warm yet subdued and dark atmosphere of the flat wound jazz guitar sound that those of us who appreciate it, long for and desire. I use The D'Addario RHR350 guitar strings on a custom D'angelico Excel Archtop with a 40 watt Fender Blues Deluxe amplifer. The Sound is absouletely unbelievable. I can only describe it as crisp but mellow and smooth. It truly is the best of both the flat and round guitar string world. They are not stiff but flexable with a no noise round wound grip. I have found my strings. I have found my sound. For me as a musican, this is monumental. These strings are an adventure into the world of Johnny Smith, Wes Montgomery and the likes. Think about it. No more Flat verses round issues. You now have the perfect blend. Bright, sweet, yet laid back smooth with out the finger noise. I wrote this review because there was next nothing written about the strings. They are worth 3 time the price I paid for them. Get out of the hear say world and try these. You'll love them.

Good sound, bad feel

These strings sounded good--very focused--but I found them hard on the fingers. Sliding up or down a fret was uncomfortable, even when I broke down and used string lubricants. I'm not saying they aren't a good product, but they were not what I expected.

I play multiple genre's, all on hollow & semi-hollow guitars. I've tried flat and round strings. The EHR half rounds perform as advertised. When you want a darker jazz sound, they sound great. When you want a little brighter sound for pop, soul, country, gospel, or rock, these strings sound great without the squeaks accompanied with round strings. This is a welcome feature when I play solo. They stay in tune and last longer than round strings.

I recently switched to half rounds on all of my electric guitars. Best of both worlds between round wound and flat. Warm and mellow with just enough brightness and minimal string noise. If you arent sure I would suggest just giving them a try and I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

The D'Addario jazz light .012s are cheaper, but wear out by the time they are stretched enough to stay in tune. The D'Addario pure nickel .012s stay in tune quicker, but don't last. These half rounds are cheaper than the chromes, stay in tune, have a nice tone, and have decent longevity. A must for short scale neck guitars.
