Cordoba

Description

Cordoba's Requinto 580 1/2-size guitar is handmade with a solid cedar top, and mahogany back and sides. The hand-inlaid all-natural wood rosette and Indian rosewood detailing distinguishes this model from other guitars in this price range. It is designed with the traditional 5-fan Torres style bracing to produce a rich Spanish sound in spite of its diminutive string length. It's ideal for children learning how to play nylon-string guitars and also doubles as a convenient travel guitar for anyone else.

It is a true 550mm, can feel a bit small for your only guitar, youthful players not withstanding. Extremely well made, sounds full and clear; gorgeous even. Perfect for travel or taking with you around town. Get a lot of comments and other players wanted to give it a try. I don't let them, LOL.

This is a great classical guitar. I tried learning a few years ago on an old entry level Mitchell acoustic guitar and struggled. Now I'm trying again with this smaller Cordoba and am loving the instrument. It has a beautiful tone and feels perfect for my smaller frame.

  • Wonderful sound for a small body guitar!

My new Requinto sounds a lot more like my full-size $2000 Alhambra than it does like a competing classical travel guitar. Way outperforms the competition in my limited sampling :)

This guitar is very well made and has beautiful tone. It's comfortable to play for adults and is suitable for small children too. My daughter is 7 years old and it fits her nicely. The Guitar Center delivered the instrument promptly and has excellent customer service. This guitar is highly recommended.

  • Good tone and super fun, though it could be made better.

I'll start with the good news and end with the bad. For as small as it is, this guitar produces a nice, warm tone, with a reasonable volume and surprising projection. It's nice to look at as well. It's lightweight and portable, but you'll have a hard time finding an actual hardcase for it (I ended up putting it in a La Patrie parlour guitar case, which works, although very snugly). I Put some Savarez HT Classic RT strings on it and tuned it up a minor 3rd to play some renaissance guitar transcriptions. The small size makes it easy to travel with, and it's a ton of fun to play. On the downside, the guitar is not very well constructed. Intonation is off slightly, making upper register playing sound pretty bad. There are some spots where too much glue was applied during construction, which is fairly unsightly. The action is also way too low, which creates a harsh and unpleasant buzz that has no place in classical playing. Of course, at 200-something dollars, this is a really cheap guitar, and I wasn't expecting perfection though, so I won't complain too much. Once I manage to get all the excess glue off, I'll be raising the nut about 1.5-2 mm and maybe padding the saddle to remove the string buzz, and hopefully get the intonation where it needs to be. Overall, I think this is a very fun instrument that doesn't sound half-bad, especially for the price. If you're looking for a toy to travel with, or for a child student's guitar, this is a great buy.

Do you tune the requinto a fourth higher then a standard acoustic guitar? ADGCEA?

    Open Reply - Thomas
No. Regular tuning. It's not that small.

What case do you have to fit this requinto?

    Open Reply - Thomas
The only case we have to fit a 1/2 guitar would be the Gator GBE-Mini-Acou Gig Bag for 1/2 to 3/4 Size Guitar. Just put that in the search bar.
