Description

The Gravity Bomb mini boost is the reincarnation of CopperSound's discontinued Smoke Monster. There are a lot of great mini boost pedals out there, but the designers wanted to do this one a little different. Instead of using transistors, they utilized a Burr Brown, audiophile op-amp capable of adding around 20dB.

The circuit foundation is the underrated MXR Micro Amp. At zero, Gravity Bomb is a buffer. At 10, it shakes the coins in your pocket. Towards the end of the dial, a combination of natural amp and pedal drive will be heard. Running the pedal at 18 volts will yield greater headroom and keep the signal cleaner throughout the entire dial. Amp and pedal distortion amounts will vary depending on rig set-ups.

I usually don't do reviews, but I felt compelled to after getting gravity bomb. I've used boost pedals for my clients in the studio for years to drive amps and get more character. This sounds amazing on guitars and especially bass. sometimes boost pedals are hit or miss - I find that while they may make things louder, they dont add any character. Gravity Bomb does both, but doesnt color your tone. This is easily one of the best boost pedals out there...it basically brings out your guitar's personality and its under a hundred bucks. When it's off, I find that I immediately lose something in my tone. I've actually bought two of them since using it a few weeks back for the first time. one for my gigging board and one for the studio. A GC friend recommended this to me and I kind of wish I bought it sooner. 10/10
