Chapman ML3 Pro Modern Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar Obsidian Burst
Description
Available in an extremely limited run, only from Guitar Center, the Chapman ML3 Pro Modern is the UK guitar-maker's second venture into semi-hollowbody guitars and a follow-up to the already hugely successful vintage version. With a dramatic obsidian burst finish and custom high-output humbucking pickups, this limited-run guitar is certain to be legendary.

Designed by guitarists, for guitarists
Chapman's crowd-sourced design process is behind this instrument. Founder Rob Chapman discovered that everywhere he went, players wanted to know when he was going to make a semi-hollow instrument, and, after using Chapman's web-based voting process, the feature set, color and electronics were chosen by excited guitarists, longing to see the result.
Based on Chapman's ML3 Pro set-neck body style, the Modern carries the same graceful lines, with Seea smooth "tummy cut" in the mahogany body and a gorgeously arched top. Chapman's Obsidian Burst finish on a maple top sets the tone for this guitar's rock edge and Chapman, already known for their finishes, was glad to comply. Aesthetically, the coverless black pickups and contrasting binding combine with the milled bridge and brass saddles to make a bold, modern statement.

Fast and sure, with an aggressive edge
The 24-fret roasted maple neck and fingerboard feature Chapman's smooth, fast profile and rolled-edge binding for a seamless playing experience. The signature Chapman "Infinity" inlay at the 12th fret brings an extra touch of class, and the "spoon-cut" neck joint eases upper fret access. As an added touch of modern convenience, the glow-in-the-dark, Luminlay side dot markers make for ease of use in tricky stage lighting.
Loaded with custom-wound Chapman high-output humbucking pickups, the guitar is designed for heavier rock. It can easily go from a whisper to a full-throated scream, from subtlety to aggression. Plus, expect great tuning stability from the Hipshot GripLock tuners and solid, 6-saddle, thru-body-strung, hardtail bridge. The guitar also includes a premium Chapman hardshell case.

I play a wide range of music styles from aggressive metal to pop punk to clean alternative and country. I can say that this guitar can do it all. You really need to know your amp and pickups or else you won't appreciate the guitar. The neck is super smooth and although the huge frets can get a little used to its full 2 octave range is great for what I need it to do for my solos. The best I can describe the neck pick up is creamy. While the bridge pickup is a screamer. when you coil split the pickups you can get a great clean tone that adds a lot of flavor to your music. My band tends to play a lot of loud cleans that jump to a heavy punk rock crunch/overdrive and this guitar fits the bill perfectly.
Great looking guitar, lovin' it so far!

I bought this blind because I wanted something like it and love Rob Chapman's YouTube channels. I have more expensive guitars that I have had to put money into to get even close to how this plays. It plays so well. The fret work is impeccable, like that of full PRS maybe better. The pickups are unique yet familiar. They sound so smooth and yet have a real raw modern tone. So amazing! I would recommend this to anyone who has that classic yet modern kind of want and wants something that is so easy to play. I really am not very good at guitar, but I was impressed at how my playing sounded with this guitar. I love it!
I was skeptical at first

I saw this guitar as available inventory at my local GC. It immediately caught my eye while I was evaluating multiple other guitars to add to my collection. The neck is a bit thicker than most other guitars and has a different feel than most. I played it for about 30 minutes in the store and decided to take the leap. After getting it home I fell more in love with the same neck thickness I originally wasn't sure about. You get more leverage on bends and the tonality is fantastic. I'm extremely glad I didn't talk myself out of it. The craftsmanship is phenomenal and the sound is unreal. Definitely a great instrument for the price, the hard case alone is honestly worth the price of the guitar. This piece continues to surprise me in the best ways. I also promise it looks so much better in person than pictures do it justice.

Firstly, this guitar is absolutely gorgeous. The guitar center pictures do not do it justice. Chapman's website photos are much more accurate in terms of color. The body is dark with a slightly green hue. The neck finish complements it wonderfully. It plays superbly well. Very easy to pickup and jam. My strat is usually my go to guitar when I'm sitting on my couch and I want to noodle, but this thing is now sitting in its case (great case btw) right next to my couch. I've been enjoying it so much that I actually go through the trouble of taking it out of the case rather than grabbing my strat which is sitting near the couch without its case. Coming from a strat, SG standard, and a mid-90s PRS custom 22, this guitar is definitely in a different vein. The pickups are much higher output than I'm used to, but the volume control gives you a tons of room for expression. It cleans up very nicely, but will absolutely howl on 10. This is my first chapman, and from reading the web descriptions, I was expecting a slimmer neck. I'm very used to the slim C shape of my strat. This neck is thicker than that, but it feels just right. It's definitely thinner than my PRS and the SG. The fretboard radius and neck feel encourage speedier playing, which contributes to how easy this thing is to play. Finish and Quality are superb, the thing is practically flawless, and the hardware is excellent from the tuners to the bridge. The only issue with the guitar is that the tone pot doesn't affect the tone until turned down to 3, then it has a sudden cut between 2 and 3. Below 2 there doesn't seem to be a change either. This can easily be remedied for less than 10 bucks and a little soldering, or a $25 service. Before I modify it though, I am awaiting a response from Chapman. I sent them an inquiry as to whether they intended the pot to function this way (probably not), but I haven't received a response yet. Regardless of the potential pot issue, I'm rating this 5/5!

The Chapman ML3 Semi-Hollow Modern - what are the 5 positions? I am guessing the middle is both humbuckers. Far left is the neck one and far right is the bridge one? Then the in between ones are just the coil split bridge and neck? There is no manual...
