A beast with disappointed QC control

A BEAST! Excellent distortion tone. Bright, modern clean tone with ton of clarity. Coil split tone is good. Locking tuning machine and stainless steel fret are super smooth. The neck dive is easy to fix by using any soft suede strap. But the QC control is disappointed. The first one I bought has an one-inch crack on the fret board. Guitar center exchanged another one for me without any problems. The second one needed setup badly (same as the first one, crazy high action and super loose neck). After a full setup, I noticed that the nut wasn't cut low enough, it's pretty high. Fortunately, it doesn't hurt the playability that much and the nut problem is not hard to fix. So I would like to keep it. The guitar very enjoyable to play, the action can be set to super low without any fret buzz, stainless steel fret is smooooooth! This guitar is a keeper if you can get a good copy.

The first model I brought home had problems with the electronics including cutting out and noise when switching the pickup selector. I brought it back and got a new one - problem solved. The neck feels great and the workmanship on the body is beautiful. It is a work of art to look at. Pickups rock but don't scream. The tuning machines are awesome and set a new standard. My only complaint is the unbalanced body while wearing a strap and standing. The weight is shifted toward the neck and the neck wants to drift toward the floor rather than sit comfortably at 30-45 degrees above horizontal where we all play and like the neck to sit. If not adjusted repeatedly, the guitar will slip until the neck is parallel to the floor. Not a problem if you are sitting down at home playing, but if you are planning on standing up, you might want to try it out in the store with a strap prior to taking one home. This may just be typical with "Explorer" type bodies. I don't know. Consider trying a Gibson Explorer in the store and see if it does the same. I still really like the guitar for it's sound, playability (especially the feel of the neck) and asthetics. I spend most of my time playing time sitting down so the balance issue doesn't bother me.
Amazing guitar!

Holy ****! I went into Guitar Center set on buying a T style(single coil) guitar. I was playing around with American teles and jazz masters when I saw that Chapman had a nice looking telecaster style in an off teal. I was vastly impressed with it and when it came to making a decision for my purchase I noticed some of the other Chapmans from their pro range and saw the explorer style guitar with a string through construction which excited me. I plugged that bad boy in and was in shock with how good it played. I also noticed the locking tuners which is a godsend for a very actively gigging artist like me. I then noticed the coil taps and it had that exact single coil sound I needed. I normally play a Gibson V live but I have a feeling this one will be used a lot live, especially on tour. This guitar has amazing playability and tone. The tone of the coil splitting is outstanding. I'm able to get as close to a telecaster sound that I want while managing to play in my comfortable scale length like that of a Gibson as well as having it complete with my Gibsons for humbucking roar. This guitar is versatile as it can play anything from funk to indie to the obvious but not limited choice of metal.
My favorite guitar

My local store apparently got this in accidentally. I've seen Mr. Chapman online playing one many times and fell in love with it since I'm a fan of the explorer. I held off for a while because, for me, it was quite the investment to make seeing as I just play for my own enjoyment. The guys at the store saw me staring at it and brought it down for me to try. It was instant love. The rolled neck and satin finish were just perfect in my hand. The pickups are there, not subtle at all, but not over the top either. Stainless steel frets make any bend or slide feel effortless, and they won't wear down like the common nickel ones. To me you won't find a guitar build of this quality from a larger name without paying double or more. Yea it's made over seas, but it's made in one of the best factories around that produce so many other companies "lower grade" guitars. Basically, if you love the explorer style and want to be sure the guitar is worth it, check this out. You can always replace pickups, but the quality of feel and construction can't be beat. Maple thru-neck, ebony fretboard, mahogany body, Maple cap, stainless steel frets, locking tuners, a full case, the money is worth it in my opinion. And if you like strap locks but aren't a fan of the ones included, I'm fairly sure the Schaller s-locks will work with the original buttons. If not the set includes their buttons. I use them on my Les Paul with the same style buttons an love them. And I don't know much, but contrary to another review, I think the balance is fine. I have a simple strap and the neck stays where I want it. It's not a heavy guitar at all. In fact it's far lighter than my LTD mh1000. This is one I plan to never sell

I'm 13 And Can Play Some Intermediate Stuff, But My Dad Surprised Me And Told Me I Could Have The Guitar. It Is Awesome, I Am A Big Metal head But I Like Greta Van Fleet and Muse A Lot Too. It Can Play good Metal and Have some Jazz or Rock. It Does Have Some Fret Buzz, But Its Not Too Bad
Worth the invest!

I've seen a lot of youtube videos about it, but seeing the guitar in real life just blew me away. Honestly, this guitar looks much nicer in person than it does on videos I've seen it in. overall, it's very well crafted and is made with a solid build quality. The pickups leave a lot to be desired, but i had already planned to swap them with seymour duncans, anyway. With that being said, i would highly recommend people consider checking it out. This guitar is worth purchasing, for sure!

Do they have stainless steel frets? Mr Chapman says they do on a Youtube video but there is no mention of this on GC's product description.
Yes they do
