Catalinbread
Description
The Naga Viper is a booster in the grand old tradition of the Dallas Rangemaster "Treble-Booster." The Rangemaster has been used by many influential British guitarists, including Tony Iommi, Brian May, Marc Bolan, and K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton of Judas Priest. These guitarists, while completely unique in their styles, share the Rangemaster's secret of boosting their cranked tube amps into a juicy, harmonic-laden rock tone that always cuts through the mix.

The Naga Viper is Catalinbread's version of this famous circuit and it enhances the classic circuit with the addition of two extra controls—Range and Heat. The original Rangemaster had just one control—Boost. The Range knob is a continuous control allows you to go from classic treble-boost to a full-range boost and anywhere in-between. The original could only function as a "treble-booster." The Heat knob gives you control over the gain level, unlike the original which was fixed at maximum gain.

It's the sound that you hear in your head for classic rock music. Which is basically the tone of a Rangemaster pedal. Play loud for the full effect. It's as good as the obscure boutique pedals of this type. I have bought and sold many Rangemaster style pedals then bought this one back.

What can I say? This thing is what I have been missing all these years. Do you like classic rock guitar tone? Have you been missing something despite all the gear you have owned and tried? Does it feel like when you get your sound to cut you take people's heads off? Well, this could be the answer. Depending on your setup running this into a slightly driven amp or OD pedal will give you early Clapton, Blackmore, Biran May, Marc Ford, etc. This makes your notes very articulate and allows you to cut without sounding harsh, at least with the setup I am using. Seems to allow enough flexibility to be used with various setups. Switching to a Strat it does seem to help to turn everything to noon. Using humbuckers? Well then turn the range and heat knobs all the way up. This may not be for everyone, however. I am currently using my volume and pickup selectors to go from dirty to clean. This really gives me an amazing tone wherever the dials are set on the guitar. Bright, articulate, without being harsh. Roll down the volume and it cleans up. All I can say is it is worth a shot if you've been missing something in your tone. This could be the missing element. Good luck!

This box is awesome. Using it mainly to add solo time while in high gain settings. Treble boosting works best for this! Who knew?
