Catalinbread

Description

What happens if you take a NOS PNP germanium transistor and an NPN silicon transistor, plus a germanium and silicon diode, and throw them into the alchemist's pot and stir it up with plenty of Catalinbread sauce? You get a bubbling cauldron of even-order harmonics that will enhance any guitar rig! So, you're thinking, is it a fuzz? Yes! Is it an overdrive? Yes! Is it a sparkly boost? Yes, again!

Karma Suture's four control layout allows you to dial in a huge range of harmonically rich tones that sound great into clean amps and into overdriven amps. Or into a foundation overdrive, such as the Dirty Little Secret. It can work equally well with vintage single coils and hot humbuckers. Because Karma Suture generates predominantly even-order harmonic distortion, you will notice amazing clarity even with extreme settings. You can even play complex chord voicings and yet every note rings through clear! Try that with your average fuzz or distortion pedal!

And even at maximum settings, the Karma Suture retains an open and responsive character unlike a lot of fuzzes and distortion pedals. Even though it has an open character, you can get amazing sustain with the Karma Suture on, especially if you're hitting a cranked up amp with it. Harmonics come in waves, undulating in and out as you hold that epic power chord.

Based on the rare Harmonic Percolator circuit, it is not just a clone. Catalinbread has expanded the potential by adding the exclusive Density and Diodes controls coupled with months of fine-tuning to get everything just right. You'll find great sounds throughout the rotation of all the controls. No matter how you have the pedal set, the tone and response is always alive, sensitive to your every playing nuance.

Another pedal that I sold but then bought it back. It's a must have for me. Catalinbread pedals are very easy to dail in to get a great tone. This pedal is no exception. It's adjustable enough to get fuzz or drive tones for single coil or humbuckers. I could just use this pedal for a drive or boost. But that's just me. Try is and you might see!

After trying hundreds of guitar pedals, one of my favorite brands is Catalinbread. I have tried at least fifty fuzz pedals and suggest that you do too, to find which ones you like the best. The Catalinbread Karma Suture has lots of harmonic overtones associated with germanium transistors. Catalinbread does not copy others. They chart their own course. The artwork is not for the weak of mind.

I bought the Karma Suture with a GC gift card via the website, so my pre-purchase research was limited to watching lots of Youtube and reading. This is also my second Catalinbread pedal, as I recently purchased the Belle Epoch. After two weeks of exploring, this pedal sounds great. There is much flexibility in the modulation, and it works very well in combination with my Jazzmaster volume control and is very responsive to picking. Now for the bad part... If you're hung up on the visual aesthetics as well as the sonic capabilities of your pedal, be forewarned that the actual paint job does not look like the photo on the GC and Catalinbread websites. The pink/magenta is actually "Sweet Plum," according to the guy at Catalinbread. But the real problem is with the overall appearance, not the base color: the orange and white are not applied with sufficient density and thus look washed out. The end result is a cheap looking pedal. And because the orange is so washed out, it's difficult to read the knob functions when first familiarizing yourself with the pedal, unless you stick you face right up to it. And the terse email response to my concern from Catalinbread did nothing to foster my loyalty. There's enough competition in this segment that I probably won't buy from Catalinbread again.
