I'm going to review each (the DVD and the book) individually. So, the DVD...it's pretty cheesey. If you can get past that. well, then, there's some good information hidden in there. It's not entirely instructional, but it does give some advice on how to approach learning the vast amount of scales and modes contained in the book. So much so, that it is understandable why the DVD is the way it is. When you can understand that, the DVD becomes a good value, and worth watching at least once. The book itself on the other hand....well, that's just a necessity for anybody. It contains pretty much every scale and mode ever conceived for bass. The content can get a bit overwhelming to someone starting out, but will also get you started building your musical vocabulary (if taken slowly). For more intermediate and advanced players. This is a great resource to generate new ideas. To the intermediate player, the content can break you of the stagnent process of practicing the same scales and modes over and over. This can also help developing a new approach and application to some of the basics that you've already learned. The advanced players, will appreciate the content, for similar reasons. As this can help point them in a new creative direction. All in all, if there's only one book you're going to want/need in your library, this one should top that list.
