BREEDLOVE ECO COLLECTION: Where the guitar meets the forest

Breedlove Eco Collection: Discovery S Series

Guthrie Trapp demos the ECO Collection Discovery S Series, in Nashville, TN.

Breedlove’s Jerry Lambert and artist Ford Thurston demo and discuss the Discovery S Series

It is time to indulge yourself with Breedlove’s affordable Discovery S CE Concert acoustic-electric guitar from their ECO Collection. This elegant guitar is designed—like all the guitars in this collection—to get the best-sounding guitar possible and to protect the world’s forests. Each ECO Collection instrument is made with sustainably sourced tonewood. Instead of getting their supply from freshly cut trees, Breedlove collects salvaged lumber from eco-friendly suppliers around the world. In addition to gathering the best tonewood for its guitars, Breedlove’s priorities are also the safety of surrounding wildlife, the local communities, the forest and planet. The ECO Collection is truly where music meets nature.

Great quality guitar at a great price
I'm just beginning my guitar lessons. I like the story behind the Breedlove company and what they are doing to sustain our forest. I looked for a long time to find this guitar. Most of the acoustic tops were either spruce or sunburst. I wanted something a little more exotic looking. I chose African mahogany. I wanted something a little smaller than a dreadlock so I chose the "concert" version. I have short arms and small hands. I sacrifice the sound for the size. The only down side is that this guitar is assembled in China. The higher end of Breedlove's guitars are still made in Oregon. That's why I didn't give it a 4 star.

The Anti-Taylor Guitar
The PROS: this is a very well made guitar with a lot of nice construction (fretwork, woods, clear-coat and binding are all top notch). Ok, so... CONS: opposite of a Taylor, the neck is chunky and not in a good way. Chunky as in Clunky. The sound is very hi mid focused, but really not like a typical Mahogany: no sweetness, no low end at all. So, neck is slow and action out of box was high (needs saddle work). Seems Breedlove excels puts effort into construction but cant design for comfort/sound. Just one player's two cents.

I was not familiar with Breedlove, but when I played it, I could not put it down. I love the tone and soulness of the guitar. For background, I am a beginner to intermediate player, and mostly do ballad songs. I was very impress that the strings stayed in key all that time as a model.

I bought this to jam with friends, as I have a Fender Acoustasonic I use for live gigs. This guitar looks and feels very nice straight out of the box. The only issue I noticed was some of the frets were oxidized, but at this price it was acceptable. Thinner satin finish neck feels good
Neck was separating from body...

The neck was not secured to the body and was about an inch off where it was supposed to be set. The guitar was unplayable, of course, and I had to return it... This is my second issue with Breedlove in the past week. I purchased another Breedlove that was twice the price last week, and there was rust around the audio output... Major disappointment. If the replacement shows up damaged I will never spend another dollar with GC again.

I tried many guitars when making a decision in my first acoustic guitar. The action is surprisingly light and low. The tone is great. I would highly recommend this to anyone.
Buyer Beware!

First let me state that Guitar Center went above and beyond with regard to customer service. The guitar is the issue. I choose this guitar due to sound and appearance. The store only had 1 the floor model in stock. After inspecting, I discovered the bridge was lifting off the top. GC gladly ordered one from another location that arrived the next day. Opened the box, inspected the guitar and found the bridge was split in 2 places. GC apologized for the inconvenience, quick refund, located a guitar..different manufacturer, now waiting for arrival. Breedlove appears lacking on quality control and is using sub par parts.

This item was listed at $349.00 earlier today and stated that the sale was through August 31st (of which it is currently 11:21pm EST on 8/31) so my understanding was that the sale would extend through until 11:59 pm in my time zone. Is there a reason for this change? I would like to purchase at the previously listed price.
