Overview

BOSS Katana amps have received accolades from guitarists everywhere for their fantastic sound and feel, onboard effects and great value. Now, the Katana-Mini makes serious Katana tone accessible in a small, go-anywhere amp that runs on batteries. Offering sound quality that far exceeds other amps in its class, this miniature powerhouse features an authentic multi-stage analog gain circuit for big, expressive sound, plus a traditional analog EQ and an onboard tape-style delay. Ultra-compact and travel-ready, the Katana-Mini delivers inspiring Katana tone anywhere you want to play.

Specially Designed for Top-Quality Sound
Unlike typical small, battery-powered guitar amps that offer so-so sound quality, the Katana-Mini produces big, full tone that inspires you to plug in and play for hours at a time. BOSS’s comprehensive design approach includes a custom speaker, advanced hardware, refined circuitry, and special component selection, which all work together to produce maximum sound quality in a minimum footprint. The amp also incorporates BOSS’s decades of research in energy efficient design, providing class-defying power and punch from only six AA-size batteries.

Inspiring Tones, Ready to Rock
The Katana-Mini’s all-analog input circuitry includes multiple gain stages that drive three classic sound settings, offering the same cascaded gain approach found in high-end amp designs. This is what gives the Katana-Mini its satisfying tone and quick, interactive feel, with distortion that’s easily controlled with input volume and picking strength. Inspired by BOSS’s flagship Waza amp, the Katana-Mini’s Brown setting delivers expressive, high-gain tones rich with harmonics, perfect for heavy riffs and soaring solos. Crunch provides overdrive that’s ideal for rock rhythms and bluesy leads, while Clean offers up crisp, sparkling tones with punchy dynamic response.

Analog Tone Stack and Onboard Delay
In contrast to the limited EQs found in other small amps, the Katana-Mini comes equipped with a genuine three-band analog tone stack. This provides natural sound shaping via familiar bass, mid, and treble controls, just like the tone stack in a full-size stage amp. In addition, you can enhance your sound further with the Katana-Mini’s cool tape-style delay. Using the dedicated time and level knobs, it’s simple to dial in everything from subtle reverb-like ambience to long, warm delay repeats.

Jam at Home or Grab and Go
Thanks to the Katana-Mini’s advanced-yet-compact design, you can plug into serious guitar tone any time and any place. Weighing just under three pounds, it sits easily on a tabletop or shelf at home. And with the integrated handle and battery operation, it’s easy and convenient to grab the amp and play anywhere you want, indoors or out. With the aux input, you can even plug in your smartphone and jam along with your personal music library or tracks streamed from the web. And for private practice and recording situations, you’ll want to take advantage of the phones/recording output, which features special cabinet voicing for real mic’d amp tone.

Pretty good for what it is, but what it is isn't much. I tried the Orange Crush 12 at the same time, another small $100 amp, and I thought the Orange sounded much better. I had a Katana 50 for a while and that's an amazing amp, so I may have gotten my expectations up unrealistically for this, and the reviews were so over the top. But I just find it a pretty thin sounding amp. I couldn't get much volume out of the clean channel, didn't much like the crunch channel, and the Brown sounded great but it's just not something I'd use very much. So I returned it. It's a pretty good little first amp for a kid who's parents don't want to be blown out of the house, but for someone who's been playing a while, you can do as well or better for the same money and a whole lot better for not very much more.

Comments about Boss KTN-MINI Katana Mini Guitar Amplifier:

Throughout the years I have bought and sold many amps, from tube to SS. I have hung onto one constant practice amp. the original MicroCube! Nothing beats it. After taking the Katana home and putting it through the paces with my different guitars...the sound quality is weak, cheap, and without any bottom end worth mentioning. It sounds like a little transistor radio from back in the day. But it is what it is so let's be fair and ask who is it for? It is good for a child or for someone who just wants a little sound box for her first guitar. Believe me, I have no idea why anyone would give this thing a 5 stars rating. Perhaps they think a little gain and distortion is enough to fill their needs. Who knows....

Probably the best $100 portable battery operated amp

Comments about Boss KTN-MINI Katana Mini Guitar Amplifier:

This is a really great value. I'm comparing this to my Yamaha THR5 and a Blackstar Fly3. While it is not a THR killer it performs admirably considering it costs half as much. The Yamaha simply sounds warmer and richer, packs more features and yes, it looks nicer on your shelf or bedside table. But if you are on a budget and don't want splurge on the THR the Katana mini doesn't give up much. So the Katana Mini may not be better but it may be the one everyone with an electric guitar has in their room.

This was a nice amp but I took it back because it was on the same level as the Blackstar Fly3. If you already have a Fly3 this is not worth buying. I guess my hope was this would take Effects pedals better than the Fly3 but they are pretty close in this aspect. The boss is a loud portable amp and works well though. Very nice gain stage settings.

Comments about Boss KTN-MINI Katana Mini Guitar Amplifier:

This is an amazing little amp! It's perfect for keeping on the desk in my office, where I practice! It's great for sitting on the couch next to me when I'm watching TV and just noodling around. I connected it to the mixer in the studio and pulled off a full night's practice with the rest of the band! While it doesn't have convenient switching options, it's not a realistic option for that situation, but we were all so impressed with the tone that we had to try it! It's great when in the circle with acoustics. Lightweight, battery operated...and the batteries have a pretty decent life span...especially if you're not cranking the volume on it. I love it because I can keep my rig packed up, and still have this to practice at home!

Love this thing. Sounds great right out of the box by itself but the best thing is it takes pedals and effect units great. Personally I have it hooked up to a boss ME-80 and a few floor pedals, especially great with the boss blues driver BD-2. Can't wait for the boss angry driver to come out next month. What's great in my case is I live in a condo with old lady's above and below me so I can't use my boogie mark 4. Having this unit is a great alternative so I can play at low volumes and it still sounds excellent. Try it you'll love it.

Comments about Boss KTN-MINI Katana Mini Guitar Amplifier:

Though a bit quiet, especially on the clean channel, for a battery powered amp you can't ask for much more. Turn up the gain and the volume you'll want is there, no worries about keeping your neighbors up. The sound is much better than a comparable VOX amp (10W) and it has many more options for tones with the three channels compared to just clean and overdriven.

Comments about Boss KTN-MINI Katana Mini Guitar Amplifier:

Gone through a few of these small battery amps over the years and I can definitely say this guy finally has a real amp tone. I already had a blackstar fly which I was pretty happy with but one of the biggest things I didn't like about it was the very basic eq control. So when I saw this boss was going to have a normal eq with low/mid/high controls I knew I had to check it out. Slightly larger than the fly but also louder and clearer with much better distortion tones. Also can testify to it being able to handle extended range guitars nicely which is something even larger practice amps can have trouble with my 8 string sounds great through the brown channel! It gets pretty loud definitely not gig worth but could probably play over an acoustic guitar no problem. Hard to comment on the durability as it's new but I only expect the beat from boss I've never had an issue with any of their products when it comes to durability. Also to add to those who might question the built in delay it is actually pretty good and can double as a reverb with the time knob at 0 and the level knob turned up. My one small grip is the headphone output just sounds okay I actually think it sounds better through the built in speaker but if it's just to quietly practice it more than acceptable. Overall would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a battery powered amp to travel with or even just as a practice amp for a beginner or experienced guitarist.

Comments about Boss KTN-MINI Katana Mini Guitar Amplifier:

I'm generally a novice in all things guitar so I won't speak the jargon of someone more seasoned than I. What I can say with confidence is that this little amp had blown my mind! If you like the Boss Katana sound, it is translated extremely well with this tiny amp.

I was so surprised it's size and weight (I see why this amp category can be called toys). But it's well built, with a simple clear layout. The switch buttons for power on/off remind me each time that this isn't high end, but that sound... I easily forget. Living in an apartment, half volume on 'clean' is enough, 1/3rd max volume on 'crunch', and 1/4th on 'brown'. Plenty loud enough for me and my needs. It will get overpowered by someone really playing on on drums, but lest that it's great!

Speaking of sound, what attracted me the most to the Katana line was the clean sound. Love it! And it made more of an impression for me than just about any other brand. And it sounds identical with the Mini. And more than that, 'crunch' and 'brown' sound equally as great! The delay knobs (time and level) are not quite as impactful as I would hope but definitely get the job done.

The Katana Mini is definitely worth a look if in the market for a battery powered portable amp. I am more than satisfied with it. And for the price, I am very very impressed! This will be my main practice/jamming amp!

Comments about Boss KTN-MINI Katana Mini Guitar Amplifier:

I have a 50 watt Vox and a 35 watt boutique tube amp and a ridiculous amount of high end pedals. I love them all, but with a Guitar Center gift card and after watching a YOuTube video on this amp, I thought I would give it a try. I just wanted something portable to practice with. Wow! I could not believe what I heard plugging in. Rich, full tone with ambient delay and gain stages. An amazing amp at a great price. Well done, Boss.

Great amp for headphones or to play is family and friends can hear. No reverb but the time all the way down and the level lol the way up on the delay and you have reverb. Super light and small love it
