Thick Sound and Smooth

I've been reading reviews on various mic preamps for at least 5 years, while deciding which to purchase. I had been going through the MBox 3, and with plugins, I was getting a great sound. However, I had to compress a good deal to get a very in your face vocal, and I wanted that on the way into the DAW. I have a Sterling ST55 FET mic, and wanted to pair it with a tube mic for a thick sound. You'll read a lot of reviews that say this is clean, and it is. But it has it's character, and it sounds amazing! I also bought an MXL Genesis Tube Mic, and that paired with the Robbie sounds great as well. I'm a Pop/R&B singer-songwriter and I only record myself, and occasionally my niece, so I know the sound I'm after, and the Blue Robbie gets it there.

Just Got the Robbie today and ran a couple tracks and am flat out amazed at the clarity! I Have a schecter strat on single coil for some cleans running thru the DI and a 57 on vocals and an AT 3060 tube condenser and they both are giving me new character as compared to the other pres that i have... A Eureka and a presonus tube pre as well as the stock pres that come in the apogee duet . it doesn't get any simpler than robbie's set up. I would also like to emphasize that this thing is bigger than it looks in pictures. in summary Robbie is CRYSTAL clear!!!

This is a great tube mic preamp, this along with my Neumann TLM103 gives me a that major label sound with warmth and clarity and to my ears The Robbie surpasses Avalon preamps. Its is easy to use and will one day be considered a collectable.

I own the Blue Robbie . It's got a great full sound for recording vocals and acoustic instruments. It's got a very clean sound with just the right amount of musicality that makes it an awesome choice for any recording studio. It also is great as a DI with electric bass, guitar and keyboards. At a thousnd bucks it's specs are alot better than most more expensive mic pres !!
