Straight out of the case - this is a thing of beauty The FP9's are built to last, they look fantastic and play perfectly. Such a nice response and great feel playing this pedal. Tons of adjustment to set it up perfectly to suit your style- I personally didn't have to do much to get it how I like. I really enjoy the different weights you can use too.

Having needing to upgraded my double kiks for my studio Edrum set with a Yamaha Kik tower, I went right to Yamaha for their bombproof build quality. And I was not disappointed! The beautifully machined driveshafts are huge compared to my DW's that I am replacing, with zero play in the knuckles it looks like it could be used to drive a motorcycle or 57 Chevy! Right out of the box with little adjustment in a huge range of adjustable foot pedal angles and direct drive linkages, I found my preferred settings fast and easily w/o having to get off my throne. Definitely worth every penny and some.

I have been looking to move on from my trusty but tired Iron Cobra for some time and was on the fence between the Yamaha and newer Iron Cobra Dyna-Sync. Being a very satisfied Tama guy for years I was a little hesitant to jump ship, but when the President's Day sale came along with the special financing I took a second (alright, probably fifty second!) look. Knowing that the Dyna Sync was fifty bucks more I was dismayed to see that if you want a case you're gonna have to fork over another ninety dollars, and that sealed it! I have to say right out of the box (and of course, the included padded case with zippered pouches and shoulder strap) this thing plays like a dream. No adjustments to anything, I just connected the two pedals and my feet were flying! This thing is so comfortable and responsive and looks so well engineered I can comfortably say this will be the last pedal I will ever buy. I'm sure the competition in this price range make great pedals too, but Yamaha really bested the other guys on this one! Go for it, you will not be dissapointed.

This pedal is amazing. I was looking for a direct drive pedal with longer boards to replace a dw9000 (which is also an awesome pedal, but very different feel) for playing death metal. After checking out a few, I settled on this one. The build quality is top-notch, especially the linkage between the two pedals. Right out of the box I was able to play faster with far less effort. The pedals feel really light compared to my 9000s, but that was expected. The two best features, I my opinion, are the spring tensioners being on top of the pedal, and super easy to adjust (you just turn a knob, which clicks rather that having to pull down on the side of the pedal with 2 hands), and the independently adjustable foot boards. I narrowed down my options to this, and the Tama dyna sync, and I preferred the feel of this pedal, and thought the construction (specifically the linkage) looked better, and thought it had better features. I will definitely be swapping the beaters for wood, as I don't like felt, but that's a personal preference. I'd suggest anyone looking for a direct drive pedal give these a try.
