    I was going to buy a Martin, but it looked so basic. Then I grabbed this one, and I was blown away... Yo, this guitar plays nice!!! 600 was my price range and it was worth it

    Ordered a Takamine which arrived in rough shape so I went to the acoustic room and started playing guitars. I prefer used guitars and kind of liked the Taylor 110CE until my salesman Bill handed me the Yamaha A1M which I immediately loved. The playability and action of this guitar was wonderful! The craftsmanship was immediately apparent and it had an onboard tuner and EQ. The sound was so good I don't think I even plugged it in for a week. I opted for the rosewood A1R which I felt had slightly better lows, but both this and the mahogany had great mids and clear highs. It is a laminate sides and back so the rosewood doesn't add as much to the sound as a solid wood guitar does so if you want to save $100 get the A1M, but the A1R is amazing and I am so happy to have tried this. Beat the Taylor, Takamine and the Guild D260CE that I ended up trading for this. I'm okay with laminate sides and back and that will help with temperature changes since I play it all the time anywhere and everywhere! I'm sure the higher priced A series with solid back and sides also sound amazing, but this guitar is a steal at this price!

    I dropped into GC to grab some strings and ended up buying this guitar. It's just that good. The build quality is excellent, the finish is flawless, the tuners are high ratio (and feel like butter), and the frets are all leveled and polished with no sharp ends. The neck is fairly thin and narrow, and is very playable and comfortable. Sound-wise it has a clear open voice with a tight, well-defined bottom. I also have a Taylor 814CE and the two guitars sound VERY similar with the difference being that the Taylor sounds a tad more full, but just a tad. If the Taylor sound is something that appeals to you, then you will be pleased with this Yamaha. In closing, the one draw-back I found was that there was a TON of relief in the neck. Fortunately the truss rod is easily accessible (a 4mm hex fits perfectly) and after a few tweaks the playability was top-notch. For a budget guitar, Yamaha has knocked it out of the park.

    Great guitar for the money. I played on several Martin guitars there that were double the cost and none of them played or sounded as good as this one.
