VOX

Description

The AC10C1 is a 10 watt tube amplifier that joins VOX's flagship lineup of tube amps, the Custom Series. More portable than the AC15 and more powerful than the AC4, the AC10C1 provides an array of classic VOX tones and comes equipped with studio-quality reverb and a master volume.

The AC10 was one of the first amplifiers to bear the VOX name and was available only for a short period of time in the early 1960s. Long adored for his ability to achieve rich, articulate tube tone at very manageable volumes, the AC10 has become a highly coveted piece of VOX history since it's discontinuation in 1965. Now in 2015, VOX is proud to reintroduce the AC10C1 and provide players with an easy way to enjoy the legendary VOX top boost sound. Equipped with reverb and a master volume, the AC10C1 is the perfect companion for the home, studio or stage.

Classic Vox Top Boost tone. No programming, no software to download. Only rated at 10 watts, perfect home volume, but when cranked , this is loud enough for small venues without a PA.

  • Fantastic Vox tone and so lightweight!

I started searching for some Vox tones after I found that my Strymon Iridium pedal's best sounds were from the Vox AC30. I went an played a few different models (AC30, AC15C1 and C2, AC30S1), and to my ears, the AC10 just had THAT Vox tone I personally love. It's easy to dial in a tight, dynamic, touch sensitive, glorious vintage crunch tone at volumes that won't have bandmates/sound guys asking you to turn down. It can get loud (not much clean headroom, but I don't need super clean) and keep up with a normal drummer, so it's good for unmiced rehearsals and certainly loud enough for shows where everything gets miced. I have Marshalls (1987, 2203, TMB18), so I know a good crunch tone, and that's what I really love about this Vox, it stays vintage. I'm not a fan of the more modern tones from Blackstar, for example. Sure you can turn down the gain in those amps, but then it gets weak and plastic sounding. The Vox stays punchy and articulate where I have it set. I can drive it with a Hot Cake OD, and it can get some sizzling lead tones. I personally like the way it sounds when I use my guitar's pickup selector and volume control for clean tones, too. I have noticed that it takes a few minutes to really warm up and give it's best tones, so keep that in mind when you play one. Give it a few min and you'll hear it come to life. It's the perfect, simple, easy to dial, portable, amp. There are space constraints on speaker upgrades given how the transformers are laid out in the box. I've found that a Greenback, Creamback, Vintage 10, and V-type all fit and sound killer. The build quality is not the best I've seen either (as far as components used), but not had any issues. Overall, love the tones and how easy it is to tote. I can't recommend it enough if you dig vintage crunch sounds.
