The warm, explosive response of this Sabian HHX Evolution Series Crash Cymbal is boosted by a bright, high-end cut for extra projection. Dave Weckl endorses them.

Phenominal Cymbals

The cymbals simply melt as you hit them, letting out an unearthly echo of dark, shimmery wash that immediately cuts through the music before settling into a musical blend of overtones. The most impressive feature about the series is how trashy they sound while still maintaining a musicality about them, and the cymbals "open up" with the slightest touch of your stick, further adding to their musicality. Both my 18 and 19 crashes ride extremely well and neither show hardly any signs of wear and tear despite the constant abuse I put them through. The only thing to consider before buying is the price-tag, which is steep considering Sabian is usually pretty price conscious. However, if they're in your price range then I highly recommend them.

I have a set of Zildjian K Medium thin dark cymbals and was looking to add something that complemented the set. The 16inch HHX evolution is the perfect pairing. It has a fast and bright crash that shimmers and blends with the pitch of the other cymbals. It's also great for cymbal swells and because it has a large bell, has the extra added dimension of pinging it for accents. Also great for cymbal chokes.

  • Excellent cymbal

Recently acquired the 16" HHX Evo Crash - nice! It's a little thinner of a crash, but it's powerful when you need it, and produces softer accent crashes when hit softly. Soft crash? What's that? It's that little extra oomph of a accent when you need it, and then it dissipates quickly. It's reminiscent of my AA Thin Crash and AAX Fast Crash, but it's in a class of it's own...darker, more mellow. Again, a mellow crash? Yes, you'll like it once you hear it. I highly recommend listening to it in person prior to buying for a true appreciation, and, besides, if you're going to spend this kind of money, you'll want to hear it for yourself. You won't be disappointed.

I initially bought a 16 Zildjian K Kustom Special Dry Crash to replace the previous drummers cymbal. Played twice and didn't like it. Traded it for the HHX and played it once and absolutely loved it.
