My beautiful wife gave me this guitar for Christmas, over a year ago. The low bass sounds coupled with the high twangy notes, puts me in guitar heaven every time I pick it up. And I play it every day, because an ax that sounds this good and plays so easy, will cause a wonderful life long addiction to it. This guitar will make you a much better guitar player. It's ain't cheap! My advice is go to a Guitar Center that has one in stock, and try it out. Then start saving. If you're serious about being a good to great player, then you'll never regret sacrificing for a Martin D-41, and you will cherish it the rest of your life.

My advice: if you're serious about playing, buy a good guitar when you're young. The lifetime warranty means more when you have a lot of years ahead of you. I moved from humid New England to the high desert outside of Reno, and the guitar didn't handle the change in humidity well. Gradually, the action got higher and the tone poorer. I kept taking the saddle down until there was no more saddle to take off, and not enough string tension to make the under-saddle pickup work. I sent the guitar back to Martin. When it came back it played and sounded better than it ever had. No charge. Martin even asked me what strings I play, so they set it up for their S&P extra-light gauge. They build better guitars today than they did in the early-to-mid '70s, so I got the benefit of today's improved craftsmanship on a guitar that has been played heavily for 50 years. Yep, it's got a bunch of dings and the finish is crackled; but holy smokes it sounds fantastic. Perfect intonation, awesome playability, clear definition of the notes, and a ring that's full of harmonic tones.

Hands down the best sounding guitar I've ever played. VERY articulate - each note seems to have its own space to ring forever. I also own an OM-28 and J40 and the D-41 outperforms them both. If I would have bought the D-41 first, I probably wouldn't have the other two.

I had played this Martin D-41 some 25 years ago and was just amazed at the tonal quality and punch this artful guitar produced. Not to mention it was the most beautiful acoustic I'd ever seen. I have played several different brands and models since and nothing quite reached the level of that D-41. I longed for that guitar all those 25 years until last year. Went to my local Guitar Center and they were out of them. I ordered one and a week later it arrived. Took it out of the box and and a crowd of guitar techs gathered over her. Breathtaking look about this guitar. I was sent into a private room and played for 45 minutes just amazed at what she sounded like. The setup was very close to what I'd preferred and will never regret the expenditure for a long time dream guitar. Named her Deena!

I've been wanting a high end Martin acoustic for decades. I have recorded many folk artists and the best sound has always been from a Martin. I went to GC to try a D-41 because of the rave reviews, but they were out of stock. The really gracious guitar salesman tracked one down in New Jersey and they would send it to me. Without trying the guitar I said yes. It arrive earlier than promised and when I opened the case I just had to stare at it for five minutes because it was so beautiful. Then I played a few chords and heard a sound like I never heard before. Many more overtones than normal, a smooth round low end and long sustain. I wasn't expecting such a wide neck though. The next day I played the guitar for about two hours and felt that I was struggling with holding down chords in the session. I was told the guitar got a set up before it was sent but this guitar was a struggle to play. I compared it to my old Takemine and the action was double the height, and grew higher towards the middle of the neck. I struggled with taking it to my guitar repair, who would have to file down both the nut and the bridge but I thought it would invalidate the return. Sadly, I took it back to GC and got a very friendly refund for it. I learned never to buy a guitar without trying it out in the store for at least half an hour, the way I always do. If this is how all D-41s are made I suggest that only very muscular guitarists get it.

I spent an entire year trying to find an acoustic that would last me the rest of my life and be the last one I would ever have to buy. This guitar caught my eye the first time I saw it but wasn't even close to the price range I was interested in. After playing tons of Martins and Taylors, I finally broke down and bought this one. Definitely has a big price tag, but it has an even bigger sound. This thing rings out like no other guitar I have ever played and the sustain is incredible. It's extremely comfortable to play and stays in tune for weeks. If you can afford it, you won't regret buying this one.
