I bought this amp & was immediately impressed. It's a beautiful amp & sounds amazing. Played Wind Cries Mary & it sounded closer to Jimi's tone than I've ever gotten before. However, when my wife's away, I like to crank my amps & blow off some steam. At full tilt with an OCD pedal, the 10" speaker just couldn't handle it. Sounded terrible actually. I returned it & bought the head with the 212 & it is amazing. Having said that, I probably don't really need to play that loud & it's probably why I ask my kids to repeat themselves so much. In hindsight, I probably should have kept the combo & just been content to play a little quieter however, if they'd put a 12" speaker in this combo, I think it would've been a home-run! A few observations: there is little difference in volume between the 5W & 20W setting. There's more of a difference in tone & break up (but not much). The difference between the hi & low inputs (6db) is much more noticeable. 2) I don't like either channel by themselves but jumped, it's incredible. IMO, jumping the channels is an absolute necessity with this amp. 3) when my wife is home, I'm usually playing with the volume knobs around 1 and it takes pedals well but If you want that natural cranked sound, a real attenuator is necessary. I tried the JHS little black box in the effects loop & hated it. I discovered that a lot of the over-driven sound from this amp comes from the power tubes, not just the pre-amp tubes & the JHS cuts the pre-amp stage before the power tubes. A friend has the Tone King II (which goes after the power tubes) and it was very good. Darkened the sound a little but could be compensated for with the EQ options & the overdriven sounds were vastly superior to what I could get with the JHS. In conclusion, this little combo is awesome unless you're going to push it to it's limits. In that case, it can't actually handle its own potential with the 10" speaker. If that's how you roll, I highly recommend the head & cab. Cheers!

Don not let this little monster fool you, the 20 watt 1x10 combo may look small but it is mighty! You want to sound like your guitar idols of the late 60s and 70s? This is the amp for you. If you are looking to use this as a bedroom practice amp, I'd highly recommend buying an attenuator or a jhs little black box, the power and volume will overwhelm you and you will miss out on the beautiful tone.

I've always wanted an original super lead, but, 1) couldn't afford an original, 2) couldn't justify buying a 100 watt head and speaker cabinet, 2) was not practical for my needs. So here I am, my dreams finally answered by the Marshall Gods, the Marshall SV20c gives me the true plexi tone that the original super lead offered, but in a much more compact and versatile size. Don't let the selector between 20 watt/5 watt fool you, this amp is very loud, and like the predecessor it lacks a master volume. I would highly recommend getting yourself an attenuator if you want to enjoy this amp a lower volumes but still retain that incredible plexi crunch. Marshall finally made my dream amp happen and I couldn't be happier!

This is currently my #1 home studio amp. I will take it to gigs once I get to know it better. In the meantime, the tone and feel, not to mention the looks, are terrific. It is super responsive and the sounds jumps out of the amp, which reminds me of tube amps I owned in the 70s. I was concerned about a 10" speaker and sure enough there is some low end missing but the overall tone is still very pleasing. As other buyers have said, it can get quite loud. Fortunately, I like clean tones so can play this amp at lower volume and then dirty it up with pedals as needed. I suppose I am a traditionalist because I now own this Marshall, a Fender Blues Jr and Vox AC15. They are all great amps and have a unique purpose but this one is a cut above. I used to own an Origin 20 and while quite good, there were times when I struggled to dial in a compelling tone. This amp doesn't have that problem. If you have the extra cash, I feel it is worth it buying this amp. It is truly an amazing experience.
