I picked this Marshall Origin 50 combo amp up from my local guitar center after returning a Fender Tone Master Delux Reverb (will write a review for it also). I sprung for the Fender TM after deciding to trade in my Marshall DSL40 (huge mistake) - mainly because I get never get the effects loop to work, plus it had some features on it that I never used, like the ultra-gain channels. Realizing that Fender TM not only doesn't have an effects loop feature, but with its incredible brightness and being a solid state - just get me the warmth and middle volume I love from the Marshall DSL40. Thankfully, Marshall made this less featured model, with all the great tone and for less than the price of Fender TM. It has an attenuator switch so you don't have to pay it full wattage. I find the 10w setting to give adequate headroom when playing in my living room. As with any amp, the key to getting the magic tone you are looking for, you'll want to tweak with the knobs. There are some good videos with tips for this exact model. I've got a Blues Driver, fuzz and loop station going into the front of the amp and reverb / delay into loop. Take your time and do you homework on what kind of sound(s) you want from your amp so you don't make the mistake of downgrading like I initially did before settling on this amazing Marshall Origin 50 combo.

I bought it to go back to a old school setup. I've had it with all this new age software and modeling, and programming! That's not for me! I have two different pedal boards that I custom made that have every effect I could possibly need at a gig. This amp has an effects loop for those who prefer it….I just plug everything right into the front like I did in the eighties, and it works great! This amp is made for pedals….. unless you just like a dry clean sound. I also have a 412 cab to plug it in too! It gets even better with that! So.. I got the combo for smaller gigs, and for the bigger venues I add the 412 cab. Works out great! I plan on adding some corner protectors and wheels soon.

I play to entertain myself at home, so the power options are very useful to get great sound. When no one is home you have that other option to blow the dust out of the cracks in the wood floors.
