Ibanez

Description

If Ibanez holds the most iconic name in metal, then the RG is certainly the guitar that built this reputation. Every inch of this classic screams speed, fury, and expression. The RG450EXB features a Meranti body, and the legendary thin, Wizard III Maple neck, revered for both its playing comfort and unparalleled speed. The jatoba fingerboard offers a warm, yet well-defined tonality. Add a double locking tremolo and proprietary Quantum pickups for a focused, vintage meets modern, vibe and you've got a guitar that's every inch a pure metal machine.

Terrific guitar with a limited run

So my wife got me the blue one for our 21st anniversary. I really didn't expect much, but have been surprised on all fronts. One thing that I think needs addressed is the complaints about setup. First off, there is no way that even a properly setup guitar is going to play like a dream if it gets shipped across country due to climate changes. Secondly, floating bridges aren't terribly hard to setup if you are USED to them. The problem is that the era of everything coming with a floating trem because it is all the rage is over, and some of that "common" knowledge gets lost over time. If you want a guitar to play like a dream, then go brick and mortar for the free setup, or expect to pay for a setup from a local dealer, and/or do it yourself. Now that my public service announcement is doe, back to the guitar. After a proper setup (intonation, neck, string height, trem), this guitar plays like as dream. Mine has zero fret sprout, no buzz with very low action, and the fret edges are on par with my old rg550. The Floyd licensed bridge is on par with any of my Floyd and Floyd licensed bridge. This includes my Kahler Spyder, original Edge, Original Floyd's with the screw posts, and the list goes on. Is it as pretty as sn Edge system? No. Does it stay in tune with crazy use? Absolutely. Is it Ibanez' lowest buck double locking trem? Yes, but it does actually work. The pickups? They sound great. I was on the fence until I plugged it in. All the internet slagging about the Quantums is a load of garbage. They sound just fine, even comparing them to my Duncan and DiMarzio loaded axes. Don't believe the negative hype. This guitar swings above its weight class.

Nice looking, great sounding, well made, inexpensive, BUT...

This would be an awesome guitar at a great price if it were not for the bottom of the barrel 'Double Locking Bridge" - this is the lowest end floating trem that Ibanez sells and you can definitely tell! I've owned numerous guitars were various flavors of Floyd's and Ibanez floating trems - and this one was the first one that drove me nuts. It just took for ever to "balance out" and get tuned, and then it came out of tune after minimal use. Yes the nut was locked down and strings stretched... but it still came out of tune every time I used the trem, and then would take an extended amount adjusting to get it back in tune. Like I said, I am used to dealing with Floyds, and I understand they take some patience.... but this one was ridiculous. Needless to say, I took the guitar back!

Guitar showed up in pretty much used condition. These are on sale because they only have floor models left, GC actually confirmed this to me. Mine showed up in an Epiphone box, missing the trem arm, the locking nut tool, covered in scratches and with very dirty strings. I called customer service to straighten this out. They agreed to send me the missing parts, except, they sent me a cheap third party trem arm that wont tighten and the wrong tool for the guitars locking system. I paid out of pocket to get the stuff i needed just to be able to restring and tune the guitar, only to find that the neck had a huge bow in it, the frets were sharper than some of my kitchen knives, and the electronics are unacceptably noisy. I feel very let down and will probably be sending this guitar back.

Received " New " on sale. Guitar was not boxed, wrapped in bubble wrap and jammed into a shipping carton. No tremolo arm , no literature, no tools, just a GC store price hang tag. Was covered in smeared goobers and fingerprints, horribly set up. After contact the GC about the missing parts, they sent an email that they were " Going to look into it" no arm , not new. Regret buying from GC ., look elsewhere for integrity when purchasing.

This is my first mid-priced electric guitar and I have to say that the price is great for what I got. Overall sound and tone is good. A fee hiccups like some fret buzz but that doesn't really bother me because it's gone when plugged in. Also my first Floyd Rose guitar but it stays in tune pretty well after I set it up.
