Ibanez
Description

The Ibanez FRH20FMN flamed maple top nylon-string acoustic-electric guitar brings the perfect blend of classical tone and modern playability. Designed for guitarists who crave the warm, expressive sound of nylon strings with the comfort and accessibility of an electric guitar, this model features a compact, thin body with a stunning flamed maple top. The instrument's side sound port creates a unique listening experience, letting you hear its pure acoustic tone more directly. Additionally, the lack of a traditional soundhole reduces feedback, making it an excellent choice for both stage and home use. With its precise craftsmanship and performance-focused design, the FRH20FMN delivers a vibrant and natural sound enhanced by its premium electronics.

Flamed Maple Top for Bright, Tight Tone

The FRH20FMN's flamed maple top not only delivers a visually striking aesthetic but also contributes to its bright and focused tonal character. Known for its clarity and tight response, flamed maple ensures that each note projects with precision. Paired with a sapele back and sides, this combination creates a balanced sonic profile that is warm in the midrange and rich in harmonics. Whether you're fingerpicking or strumming, this guitar's tonewood selection ensures a dynamic playing experience that captures every nuance of your technique.

Modified Ibanez FR Hollowbody Design With Fan Bracing

This guitar's modified FR hollowbody design enhances both playability and tonal performance. Its thin, lightweight construction offers superior high-fret access, while the absence of a traditional soundhole minimizes feedback during amplified performances. Fan bracing, a hallmark of classical guitar construction, provides a warm, resonant tone that complements the nylon strings. This thoughtful design ensures the guitar's acoustic voice is rich and expressive, whether played unplugged or amplified.

Nyatoh Neck With Rosewood Fingerboard for Enhanced Playability

The FRH20FMN features a nyatoh neck that provides a smooth, balanced feel with a warm mid-low tonal response. Complementing the neck is a rosewood fingerboard, which adds a focused midrange and a solid tonal foundation. The 1.81" nut width and 15.75" fretboard radius offer a comfortable grip, making intricate fingerstyle passages and chord transitions effortless. Whether you're exploring classical techniques or experimenting with modern phrasing, the neck and fretboard combination ensures fluidity and precision across the entire playing surface.

Ibanez AEQ210T Preamp With Onboard Tuner for Precision Control

The Ibanez FRH20FMN is equipped with the AEQ210T preamp and an undersaddle pickup, ensuring its warm acoustic tone is faithfully amplified. The preamp includes a user-friendly onboard EQ, allowing you to fine-tune your sound for any performance setting. Additionally, the built-in digital tuner provides quick and accurate tuning adjustments, keeping your instrument performance-ready at all times. Whether you're on stage or in the studio, the electronics on this guitar ensure your tone remains natural and well-balanced.

Premium Acoustic Tone With Electric-Like Comfort

The Ibanez FRH20FMN flamed maple top nylon-string acoustic-electric guitar is ideal for players seeking the tonal warmth of a classical guitar without sacrificing the comfort of an electric. Its thin body, ergonomic neck profile and onboard electronics make it a versatile instrument for live performances, studio sessions and home practice. If you're looking for a hybrid guitar that seamlessly bridges nylon-string tone with modern playability, the FRH20FMN is the perfect addition to your collection.

This is my favorite couch guitar and the one I whip out whenever I get the itch to practice. It's just so comfortable and easy to pay. I play it in bed. I play it watching movies. I play it in the dark with my eyes closed. The important thing is I play it all the time. I've never plugged it into an amp and treat it as a quiet (but not silent) acoustic with a built-in tuner. For that use-case it is perfection to me. It's wide enough for finger style but with relatively low action compared to my classical nylon. I haven't touched any of my steel sting guitars since getting this and even my classical guitar is getting ignored. The FRH has gotten me playing higher on the neck and my classical is unusable up there. I'm torn since I don't actually care for the sound although it is growing on me. Unplugged it has a cheapish almost ukulele like sound that has taken me some time to get used to. I mentioned that I have never plugged it in but I did use it with an amp in the Guitar Center before buying it and it sounded pretty bad compared to the Godin I was also playing with. I liked it more than the Cordoba Stage which on paper should have been the better guitar. I've only ever used amped steel strings or acoustic nylon so perhaps I'm just not used to the sound of piezo nylon yet. But honestly, if this was just an acoustic practice guitar I would still have bought it. I love playing it that much.

I bought the Ibanez FRH20FMN Flamed Maple Top Nylon-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar as an inexpensive backup for my workhorse Godin Multiac guitar for solo instrumental gigs. But I can't stop playing it. The side mounted sound hole directs the sound to my ears, and should eliminate feedback when amplified on stage. With its Cosmic Blue Starburst quilted maple top and decorative fretboard inlays, it's a strikingly attractive guitar. This guitar is lightweight, being less than 5 pounds, nearly half the weight of my Godin guitar. It's very comfortable to play, standing with a strap or sitting. The electric pickup is good and the on-board tuner is especially helpful. The guitar sounds great through my Roland Cube Street amp, which can be used a preamp for PA. I wish the volume and tone controls were placed on the upper top of the guitar, rather than the side of the guitar. The control knobs are tiny. It makes volume and tone changes a bit awkward doing a performance. Using the onboard tuner mutes the guitar. If you leave it in the tuning setting, it does not turn off and it may shorten the life of the 9V preamp battery. I'd rather trust a clip on Snark tuner on stage. Despite its design flaws, this may become my go-to guitar for performances. #sweepstakes.
