Guild D-55E Demo - Jon Gomm's "Topeka" by Michael Hermes

Guild D-55E Demo - Jon Gomm's "Topeka" by Michael Hermes

Guild

Description

First introduced in 1968 as a special-order, top-of-the-line model, the D-55 was so well-received that Guild added it into the regular production line by 1974. Famously played by Tommy Smothers on the Smothers Brothers Show in the 1960s, the D-55 grew in both popularity and longevity over the decades, finding homes in the hands of more contemporary artists like Waylon Jennings, Billie Joe Armstrong, and David Nail. The most anticipated return of a Guild acoustic to date, the 2017 Guild D-55 is back and better than ever.</

This modern D-55E remains true to all the premium appointments of its 1968 predecessor, including a AAA Sitka spruce top, solid Indian rosewood back and sides, ebony fingerboard and bridge, and nitrocellulose finish. Internal refinements include scalloped Adirondack bracing, as well as an improved dovetail neck joint, hand-fit to make this generation of D-55, the lightest, loudest, and best-sounding yet.

The D-55E showcases Guild’s most recognizable headstock, fully bound and featuring the Guild “Peak and Shield” inlay combination over a figured ebony overlay. The matching ebony fingerboard is also fully bound and inlayed with Guild’s iconic abalone/pearl “V-Blocks” and multi-line “railroad track” purfling on the bass and treble sides.

The D-55E’s fingerboard is set on an all-mahogany neck with beautiful walnut center seam running the length of the heel to headstock. The D-55’s nitro Antique Burst finish is hand-sprayed for minimum thickness and maximum resonance that will only get better with age. It also comes with an L.R. Baggs pickup system to give you more playing versatility. Each guitar includes a hand-signed certificate of authenticity and ships with Guild’s Premium humidified hardshell case.

Stunning in appearance and performance. This D-55E outshines them all. The Bass output from her is in a league by itself. That was what I noticed first upon playing Her. Everything is so Crisp and Clear. I had the Action dropped a bit to suit my Style, and I've never had any regrets.

I've recently been looking for a new guitar to expand my sound. I played many at my local music store. When I played this, it sounded like nothing I'd heard. I did some research and finally went back after a few months and bought it. So glad I did! The sound and durability are just what I wanted. The LR Baggs Anthem pickup is amazing. Incredible tone, well balanced. This guitar has risen to the top of my collection.

In addition to its great looks, the fit and finish are first class. Acoustically the guitar has incredible tone; very well balanced. The bottom strings are rich and deep while the higher strings are warm not thin. The L R Baggs Anthem pickup system sounds true and natural through my Fishman Loudbox Artist amp. Overall a great addition to my guitar collection.

I have been playing guitar for many years. My favorite acoustic is my Martin HD-28. I wanted to broaden my tonal arsenal and loved the look of this Guild D-55E. It comes with the LR Baggs Anthem system, which I have in my Martin and really like the sound. I was pretty sure the Guild would not have the low end punch of the Martin dread, but I was very pleasantly surprised at the loudness, and well balanced mid range of this guitar, along with the expected high, without being "shimmery". The neck is extremely comfortable for my hand...more so than my Martin. Of course the look of the guitar is gorgeous! The sunburst finish is stunning, along with the beautiful fret markes, neck binding and purling. Couldn't be happier!

Have had this guitar for over a year. The guitar sounds so big. In fact, it has such a big sound that it has forced me to learn to project my voice more in singing, which is a great thing. Love playing across the whole next. Easy to play fretboard. Lovely sounds, even with a light touch. This is now my go to guitar and I love it.
