G&L

Description

The G&L Placentia ASAT Bluesboy electric guitar features a poplar body and maple fingerboard, with a single-coil Tele pickup at the bridge and a chrome humbucker at the neck. It was designed for new players looking for a high-quality yet accessible G&L guitar.

The Placentia series is named after the location of G&L Guitars—which sits on historic Fender Avenue, running between Fullerton and the city of Placentia. The series offers iconic G&L designs, as developed by Leo Fender, with the addition of some more traditional parts.

Bought this as a STOTD, even though, other than a single picture, there was virtually no information or specifications as part of the description. PROS: * Good looking guitar. The fit and finish are fine and I like the color. * Heavy - about 8 lbs. (hey, I like it...). The body looks like mahogany - I suspect "Nato". * Plays good after a slight truss rod adjustment and setup. * Electronics and tuners seem fine. * Price - for what it is, two sixty as SDOTD is probably about right. CONS: * Pickups - the neck humbucker sounds mushy to me, and the bridge single coil is pretty bity. Middle position with both is OK. * The fret surfaces are pretty rough. * The whole marketing of the "Placentia" series is a little shady - "Here, buy this. We can't give you ANY information on it, but it DOES have a G&L logo..." MF has a rep for this type of thing, but G&L might want to be a smidge more protective of their good name.

  • I love it!

It's a line of guitars. Looks like a step up from their classic models but not quite up to their custom lines.
