Open Box Focal Shape Twin Dual 5" Powered Studio Monitor (Each) Level 2 197881164836

Description
Shape Twin is made in France, just like Shape 40, 50 and 65. Designed to meet the needs of nearfield monitoring, these monitors combine an ingenuous design and numerous settings optimized for the acoustics of small listening rooms. Shape Twin stands out through its excellent rendering over the whole audio spectrum, its broad frequency response in the low end, and its high SPL considering its size. The compact design makes it easy to integrate even into the most cramped of rooms. Finally, its 2.5-way design gives it a real advantage when it comes to controlling the bass and lower midrange registers, which are the hardest to control in small rooms.
Shape Twin’s five innovations present a remarkable tonal balance, with very wide and precise stereo imaging. The low frequencies are well defined as well as controlled. The low-mid and mid ranges provide a true neutral sound.

For studio monitors they are to the warm side of neutral and are pleasant to listen to. Extremely attractive. Feels like quality. It did take a few days to run them in before they sounded right. I preferred them over the Shape 65. Punchier with a bolder presence. The Shape Twins sound about the opposite of the Yamaha HS8 and are MUCH smoother and non fatiguing. I could not hear an audible hiss. I got these for my bedroom and not to mix with. Goes fairly deep and they can get fairly loud in a 200 square ft. bedroom with 11' ceilings without breaking up. I don't feel a need for a subwoofer. But I am curious if a sub would change the way the mid range presents. You can adjust the bass, midrange and treble on the back side. I found the Shape Twins to be a little mid forward. Voices, piano and guitar sound good on good recordings. Poor recordings not so much. The high frequency performance is much better than the Focal EVO line. To me they sound better than everything that my Guitar Center had set up in their listening room. (My store actually has a lot more speakers setup for listening than your typical Guitar Center, maybe 3 times as many). I passed on the KH 120 because the ShapeTwin was a better fit for my purpose. The sound made an emotional connection to my heart at a price I was comfortable with. It all comes down to preference and in the end you have to listen for yourself.
