Exploring the Player Plus Telecaster Models | Fender

Description
The Fender Player Plus Telecaster offers pro performance without the pro price. Noiseless pickups and locking tuners are game changers for all players. Beginners will appreciate the uber-comfortable feel of the neck. Lead guitarists will find that the flatter fretboard increases soloing speed. Read on to discover if the Player Plus Tele deserves a spot in your stable.

Fender Player Plus Telecaster Main Features

  • Alder body with gloss finish
  • Maple neck with Modern C shape, pau ferro fretboard
  • Dual Gen 4 Noiseless pickups, push/push activation for series/parallel wiring, 3-way switch
  • Deluxe cast/sealed locking tuners, string-thru body bridge with six block steel saddles

Classic Design

The utilitarian design of the Telecaster has withstood the test of time. On the Player Plus, the body is alder, a tonewood that Fender has employed since 1956. Resonant with a balanced tone, it provides a perfect platform for the pickups to shine.

Noiseless Pickups

From Danny Gatton's warm jazz comping to James Burton's chicken pickin', Jimmy Page's snarling solo on "Stairway to Heaven" to Jeff Buckley's harp-like sound on "Hallelujah," a Telecaster's tone is surprisingly versatile. You'll get all of that and more on the Player Plus Telecaster, but one thing you won't get is interference. It's spec'd with Gen 4 Noiseless single coils. Wound with Alnico V magnets, the Gen 4 pickups are also high output, making it easier to drive your amplifier to distortion. A push/push pot lets you run the pickups in series for a beefier sound, or in parallel for more traditional tones.

A Neck That Stands Out

The neck on the Player Plus Telecaster deserves special recognition. It has a Modern C shape or "flattened oval" profile that's more ergonomic than others. Rolled fretboard edges give it a worn-in-feel. Unusual for a Tele, the fretboard has a 12" radius, making it easier to bend strings without fretting out.

Updated Hardware

Once you've experienced locking tuners, you'll never want to go back. To change strings on the Player Plus Telecaster, just thread each string, lock, cut and tune it up. The six-saddle bridge offers more exact intonation than on a traditional Tele. Working in concert with the high-ratio tuners, you'll be able to play in tune all night long.

The Fender Player Plus Tele comes with a deluxe gig bag.

After years of working with my workhouse of a partscaster, I saw a good deal on telecasters and thought why not. To be honest I haven't even picked up my old guitar because this new one plays great and sounds better than I expected. Happy customer, would recommend.

  • This is my best telecaster that I have in my studio .

I have and presently own quite a few Fender guitars of both Tele and Strat configurations. The Q.C. on the PlayerPlus Telecaster amazed me. I find it very difficult to put down. I wish that a certain other well known American instrument maker I love took as much time and effort as Fender has.

I owned this guitar for a few weeks and really wanted to love it. Great sound, love the fretboard radius, LOVE the color....HATED the Pau Ferro neck. Not enough contrast with the fret markers...makes them very hard to see under most lighting. Ended up returning the guitar.

Liked in the store - on the second day home after purchase I started hearing "scratchy" extraneous noise, which was eliminated when I switched guitars. long story short - took guitar back, the store tech couldn't find the problem so I picked up another one just like the original. Same deal. After second day the scratchiness surfaced. Took the guitar to my usual luthier, who fixed the problem- a lack of shielding under the scratch plate. He also did a pro setup; something I noticed in the store- was needed. Why didn't I get GC tech to set it up? Because I don't trust them anymore. It's set up great now and the manufacturing problem has been repaired, but these MIM models have that defect. I was 2 for 2 on having that issue. Now that am pro has touched it and I paid another $100, I really like the guitar. But way too much trouble to get to this point.
