John Famiglietti Demos the Kingman Acoustic Bass | California Series

John Famiglietti Demos the Kingman Acoustic Bass | California Series

Description

Born from Fender’s electric bass DNA and built for unplugged freedom, the Fender Kingman V2 acoustic-electric bass brings classic California style to the acoustic stage. Hailing from the California series, this bass' solid spruce top and mahogany body deliver deep, punchy projection with clear note definition, while forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing keeps the response lively and articulate. The short-scale Jazz Bass–inspired mahogany neck feels fast and familiar under the fingers, paired with a smooth walnut fingerboard for balanced response and clean note separation. A Fishman preamp system makes plugging in effortless, translating the Kingman’s focused low end into clear, mix-ready amplified tone. With its cutaway body, 4-in-line headstock and unmistakable Fender attitude, the Kingman V2 is an acoustic bass that refuses to blend into the background.

Solid Spruce Top and Mahogany Body for Punch and Clarity

The solid spruce top provides snap and articulation, while mahogany back and sides add warmth and midrange focus that keep the low end tight rather than boomy. Forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing reduces excess mass for improved resonance and dynamic response, helping the bass project clearly in acoustic settings. The mid-sized concert body balances comfort with depth, delivering strong fundamental support without feeling oversized. A cutaway ensures access to higher positions, expanding the instrument’s usable range for more expressive playing.

Short-Scale Jazz Bass Neck for Familiar, Fast Playability

Modeled after the iconic Fender Jazz Bass, the slim C-shaped mahogany neck brings electric-style comfort to the acoustic world. The 30.3" scale length offers a slightly looser feel, making technical runs and longer sessions easier on the hands. A 1.5" nut width and smooth walnut fingerboard provide comfortable spacing and confident fretting, while the satin finish enhances speed and control. For electric bassists stepping into an acoustic setting, the transition feels immediate and natural.

Fishman Electronics and Road-Ready Hardware

The onboard Fishman preamp delivers straightforward, dependable amplified tone for rehearsal, recording or live performance. Designed to preserve the bass’s natural character, it provides clear output without unwanted harshness. A Graph Tech NuBone nut and saddle support strong sustain and focused fundamental tone, while open-gear vintage-style tuners offer reliable tuning stability. Fender’s Modern Viking bridge and phosphor bronze strings complete a setup built to handle real-world playing.

The Kingman V2: Acoustic Projection With Electric Attitude

Combining deep acoustic response with unmistakable California series styling and short-scale comfort, the Fender Kingman V2 acoustic-electric bass delivers unplugged punch without sacrificing electric familiarity. It’s a bold, stage-ready instrument for bassists who want to stand out—visually and sonically—while keeping their feel intact.

Great bass! Good price point, very satisfied.

This is a great bass! I've owned and played a handful of acoustic basses from different companies in my time and i like this one the best. Let me state first, I'm not a fender guy but…I've always loved the sound of an acoustic bass and I always wanted one, so i shopped around for a while and went through a few different models to arrive at this one. I've had it for a year now and i grow to love it more all the time! The pictures on GC dont do it justice…The high gloss black finish on the body and headstock is sleek and sexy and the bold block inlays coupled with the jazz bass neck and headstock give this beauty a different attitude compared to other acoustic basses and it plays smooth and sounds great! The biggest thing I noticed with this model compared to the other acoustic basses I've had is that this one really projects well and has great tone plugged or unplugged! I travel a lot and this bass has gone a lot of places with me and it's always sure to turn heads. I live in a place where i wouldn't want to crank my amps to play electric so this has become the main bass i use to practice with and i have a lot of fun with it. It looks and sounds great, it's built and finished well, it's fun and smooth to play, it holds its tuning and the electronics don't drain batteries…what more could you ask for? I would definitely recommend this bass, especially for the price point.

Junk

I hate writing bad reviews. But I bought this bass based on the reviews here without playing one. The setup on it was horrible, buzzing on the G string from the 8th to about the 15th fret. When it was plugged in there was a short somewhere in the electronics. If you stayed perfectly still it was ok, but the minute you just slightly moved a horrific noise. I grew up loving fender guitars, but they should be ashamed that this ever went out the door and the same with guitar center for putting a shipping label on it. Obviously I am returning it. I will say EVERYONE I've talked to at guitar center has been great. Every player wants a deal. Me included, but this bass is a train wreck. Do yourself a favor , step up and pay a little bit more and get something that has some quality. Learn from my mistake. Best of luck

I bought this to be able to practice without plugging in and to take with me on short trips. It plays and sounds well for the price point. The additiona of the deluxe gig bag was an unexpecgted bonus.

I got this so I could get some practice in without plugging in. It's loud enough for that purpose and plays really well. When I do plug it in on occasion, it sounds amazingly well. I think for the price point it's a good buy and for me a great addition to my collection. The deluxe gig bag that it came with was an unexpected bonus.

I use this as a practice bass so I don't have to plug in. I find that I like to plug it in every now and then though. It has a great sound and plays very easy. I don't think you will go wrong with this and it make a nice addition to your quiver. Including the Deluxe gig bag was a bonus!
