Highway Series: On the Road | Fender
Description
The Fender Highway Series dreadnought acoustic-electric realizes two quintessential elements of instrument innovation: loyalty to the time-honored look and feel of classic guitars, and a relentless pursuit of modern, practical developments that allow newer generations of musicians to express without roadblock. This Highway Series dreadnought, with a Sitka spruce top, merges a thin, ergonomic body, an advanced Fishman Fluence pickup system, and the unplugged resonance and full-bodied tone of dreadnought-style instruments twice its size. A reimagining of the acoustic guitar experience, the Highway dreadnought exhibits utmost Fender design expertise, whether you’re on stage, in the studio or simply jamming on the couch at home. With enhanced comfort, unrivaled playability and premium onboard electronics, the Fender Highway dreadnought paves the way for players of all levels to navigate the musical roads opened by a truly innovative acoustic-electric guitar.

Lightweight, Ergonomic Body
The Highway Series dreadnought is constructed from a fully chambered thinline mahogany body that’s only 2.25" thick and inlaid with a solid Sitka spruce top. On the back of the guitar is a deeply contoured belly carve that ergonomically hugs the player for on-lap or on-strap comfort, even during extended sessions or performances. Internally, the Fender Highway Series body leverages one of the brand’s most advanced construction techniques: a floating “X” bracing pattern. The Highway Series dreadnought’s revolutionary design perfectly harmonizes comfort and bold acoustic resonance, for an instrument that looks, feels and sounds exquisite.

Fishman Fluence Electronics
Developed by Fishman Fluence in collaboration with Fender, the engine driving the Highway acoustic-electric is a groundbreaking all-analog pickup system. The Fluence Core pickup’s curved form factor elegantly outlines the soundhole in an unobtrusive way that’s careful not to detract from the natural beauty of the guitar’s solid spruce top. It’s also positioned in such a way that it captures the natural acoustic properties of the instrument with minimal coloration. Each aspect of the guitar and the Fishman Fluence acoustic pickup was engineered in tandem, building a proprietary system specially for Highway Series instruments. Amplified, the guitar is clear, responsive and noiseless. This custom-tailored Fishman Fluence system rejects feedback and delivers dynamic sound with consistent, high-fidelity output.

Multi-voice Control
For further tonal flexibility, the Fishman Fluence pickup system provides players an intuitive sound-sculpting solution to alter the characteristics of their amplified sound. The Fender Highway dreadnought hybrid comes equipped with volume and contour controls, the latter of which pans between two EQ settings. This additional layer of refinement lets performing and recording guitarists hone in on their preferred tone, fine-tuning it for realism, detail and authentic acoustic timbre, even when plugged in.

Acoustic Sound, Electric Playability
Highway Series acoustic-electrics stand out with a distinctive Strat-style headstock. More than just an aesthetic choice, it’s indicative of the level of playability these guitars afford. While the string tension still feels like a standard acoustic guitar, the thinner C-shape neck is reminiscent of an electric, with a rosewood fingerboard supplementing a smooth tactile experience and robust sound. Paired with the contoured, lightweight body, it’s hard to believe there’s an acoustic guitar in your hands whenever you pick up a Fender Highway Series dreadnought. Whether you’re recording direct, playing live through an amp or strumming unplugged, the Highway hybrid retains the emotive tonality of a full-size acoustic instrument in a significantly more streamlined package.
The Fender Highway Series dreadnought, with an inlaid spruce top, sits at the crossroads of ageless and ultramodern. Fender tapped decades of luthier mastery to pioneer an acoustic-electric that’s exceptionally thinner and lighter than comparable instruments, without sacrificing any of the natural resonant bloom associated with larger guitars. Possessing drastically improved playability, massive unplugged sound and a groundbreaking pickup system, the Highway Series dreadnought is a high-performance daily driver, equally geared for the studio, the stage and anywhere in between. Playing is better than believing, so check out your local Guitar Center to test drive a Fender Highway Series acoustic-electric today.

Great for what it is

To get the most out of this, plan to play it through an acoustic amp. A modeling amp or FX board takes some work to optimize tone. Sounds pretty thin acoustically. If I'm going to play an acoustic guitar without an amp, then I'll grab my Dreadnought.

Went looking for a traditional dread to replace/upgrade my old Fender acoustic I've had forever. There was something intriguing and "approachable" about the Highway. Dubious until I plugged it into an amp - then I was "wow." Sounds great plugged into my Bose S1 Pro.
Sounds great live

Definitely solid choice if you play acoustic guitar live. Sounds great plugged in. Fun for playing unplugged around the house, but my rating is all for its plugged in qualities.
