Breedlove
Description

Breedlove's Discovery S Concertina acoustic guitar is part of their sustainably sourced ECO Collection. This beginner-friendly guitar features solid red cedar tops and mahogany EcoTonewood backs and sides from renewable forests. The result is an affordable guitar with a sound typically found in models costing thousands more.

Sustainable Materials Provide Guilt-Free Tone

Breedlove is committed to protecting forests, and the Discovery S Concertina is a testament to that vision. Its solid red cedar top is sustainably harvested, as is the mahogany used in the EcoTonewood backs and sides. These renewable tonewoods provide a warm, complex voice that responds dynamically to your playing style. You'll love the guitar's tone as much as Breedlove loves the planet.

Thoughtful Design Makes Playing a Joy

While the Discovery S Concertina's materials are eco-friendly, its design is player-friendly. A slim C neck profile, narrow nut width and radiused fretboard make chords and solos easy on your hands. An innovative pinless bridge speeds up string changes. And Breedlove's Concertina body shape provides a surprisingly full, resonant tone from a compact form. Whether you're practicing in your living room or performing at an open mic, the Discovery S Concertina is a delight to play.

Lifetime Warranty Provides Peace of Mind

Breedlove stands behind the Discovery S Concertina with a limited lifetime warranty. That means if there are any issues with materials or workmanship, Breedlove will make things right, so you can keep playing worry-free. Breedlove also offers a 2-year warranty on tuning machines and electronics, so you're covered on all fronts with this guitar.

An Ideal First Guitar That You'll Play for Life

The inspiring tone and playability of the Discovery S Concertina will keep you coming back for years. Whether strumming chords or fingerpicking melodies, the Discovery S Concertina responds with a warm, woody voice. Start your musical journey with an eco-friendly guitar you'll enjoy for life.

Let's keep it short. Bought Feb 2025. PROS: Sustain is incredible for a parlor sized body. Sound is super warm low end & crisp high end. Mine still has no buzz. Good fretting hand feel / CONS: I'm large handed. Neck is small but workable. I recommend to change the tuners, nut & bridge.

Sounds like a toy guitar. I've adjusted the truss rod and changed the strings but the strings still raddle. I'm not happy with this guitar at all.

I bought this for my 11-year-old daughter. She had started off playing a Yamaha JR-1 when she was 10, and it was a great starter for her size. Then she started to grow (as children that age tend to do) and the Yamaha started to look a bit comical in her hands. So we were looking for her next guitar. I looked hard at the Concert size, but in the end, I decided that would be a bit too big. So I downshifted to this Concertina, which is a perfect size for her. This guitar is certainly smaller, but it's got a big sound. You're really not sacrificing anything. Finger-picking on it sounds particularly amazing. My daughter is still a beginner and only 11 years old, but she will be able to play this guitar forever. And I have to admit I love having it around as a complement to my Martin D-18. It's really fun to pick up and play. I haven't changed the strings yet to be able to evaluate how the pinless system, but that was also a draw for me to hopefully enable my daughter to change the strings easily. There are 3 minor negatives: #1 It's not the prettiest guitar in the world. The color variation of the cedar top is a nice look, but the satin finish, while I think likely opens up the sound and tone of the guitar, does give it a bit of a dull look. The rosette is beautiful but also a bit muted. On one level, I can appreciate the simplicity, but it's just kind of dull. I think a gloss finish would really make this guitar pop. #2 The action out of the box was a bit high. Not a huge deal. Probably to be expected. Just be prepared to drop another $50-$100 #3 It doesn't come with a case or a bag or anything. Not exactly shocking given the price point, but something to consider. It was pouring down rain when I bought mine, and they gave me a garbage bag to cover it as I ran to my guitar.

Cedar top gives this guitar a loud tone. Way above its class. Unfortunately; I needed an instrument for live performance and it had no pre amp. Tried with mic but the tone was not what I was looking for; I would recommend though . This beats any small Martin or Taylor for the money.
