BOSS Acoustic Singer Amplifier feat. Lloyd Spiegel

BOSS Acoustic Singer Amplifier feat. Lloyd Spiegel

Description

The BOSS Acoustic Singer Pro opens up a new world of creative possibilities for singer-songwriters and acoustic guitarists. This revolutionary 120W bi-amped combo amplifier provides premium sound for acoustic instruments and vocals, with discrete analog input circuits and 3-band EQ on each channel. Beyond its studio-quality tone, the Acoustic Singer Pro features automatic vocal harmonies, an onboard looper and built-in effects to inspire your live performances.

Automatic Vocal Harmonies and Looping

A standout feature of the Acoustic Singer Pro is its vocal harmony function, which creates live harmonies as you sing and play guitar. It all happens automatically, so there's no complicated setup needed. Your chord progressions are analyzed in real time, generating impressive harmonies perfectly tuned to the key of your song. And if you modulate to a new key, the intelligent processing follows along smoothly and accurately. Two different harmony types are available, plus a unison setting that doubles your voice for more impact. The amp's built-in looper provides even more creative fun, allowing you to build live backing with guitar, vocals, effects and more.

Natural Sound with Power, Definition and Presence

Amplifying your acoustic guitar with the Acoustic Singer Pro is a truly inspiring experience. BOSS engineers worked tirelessly to accurately reproduce the instrument's fast transient response and natural, three-dimensional feel, and each amplifier element was carefully developed to achieve this. A powerful bi-amp design with extended peak power delivers tight, high-definition sound with ultra-clean broadband frequency response. The custom 8" woofer and dome tweeter feature innovative materials and precision design points that work together to fill the stage with rich, naturally diffused sound.

Advanced Connectivity and Control

The Acoustic Singer Pro's rear panel is well stocked for your interfacing needs. Dual DI/Line outputs are provided on XLR connectors, and each features a versatile mode switch for outputting both channels mixed together, or individual channels direct or post-effects. There's also an aux input with level control, perfect for playing backing music from your mobile device. A USB jack offers a direct computer connection to a DAW, while the Rec/Phones jack provides a standard 1/4" stereo connection for quiet practice sessions or recording to portable devices. Numerous jacks are also available for controlling the harmony function, looper, effects and more via footswitches.

Exactly as advertised!

I have only had the amp for a short time, so I'm still exploring the envelope. The foot pedal has a little bit of a learning curve, but I'm getting used to it. It's click-less and completely silent, which is great, but the lack of haptic feedback make it difficult to tell if you have pressed the switch or not. I'll either get used to it or buy an upgrade later. The reverb and chorus are very rich and natural, as well as noiseless. It seems to have plenty of power, but I haven't played out with it yet. One reviewer mentioned disappointment with the harmony, but I'm having the opposite experience. I play with a lot of minor chords, as well as open 9th's and 11th's and all that kind of moody junk. The harmony works great with it. The harmony also keeps up with hammer-ons and pull-offs just fine. I can see where it might have trouble with arpeggiation, but then the processor is only getting one note at a time to work with. The harmony only gives back what you put in. If you are off key or your guitar is slightly out of tune (as I found out with a new set of strings during break-in), of course the harmony goes off the rails. If you sing in a breathy voice, the harmony recedes into the background. It reminds me of an old expression from the early days of computers: GIGO. Ask an old-timer if you don't know that one. Basically, it's just giving back an imitation of your own input, and it is brutally honest! I've been making practice recordings and already have improved on some of my lazy vocal technique. I waited two years to buy this thing and my only regret is not buying it two years ago!

Disappointed

The amp itself is fine, but the vocal harmonizer (which is the main reason that I bought the amp) was a disappointment. I already have a TC Helicon voice processor pedal and I wanted to replace my amp/pedal combo with a smaller single unit. I was also hoping that Boss had somehow improved harmony technology, but this harmonizer still has the same problems as any harmony machine. (Maybe my expectations were too high.) The harmonizer sounds pretty good as long as you play major chords and if you strum. If you arpeggiate, it apparently can't identify the chord and the harmony jumps around. Similarly, if you strum anything but major chords, such as seventh or sus chords, it apparently can't figure out which part of the chord to harmonize with, and it doesn't sound good. Also, if you play embellishments, like hammer-ons, it will confuse the harmony. So, if this were a regular acoustic amp, I'd give it five stars; but the disappointing harmonizer brings it down for me and I'll be returning it.

Harmonies are ok for what your buying, I got it for the Size and the fact that both guitar and voice can be Used with it. Pretty clear and loud for the small size. I like all the back side plug in features, that's a bonus. Lots of Acoustic Guitar adjustments to put it where you Like it. Big bang for the Buck!

  • Great Acoustic Amp. Harmonies could be better.

I think this is a fine acoustic guitar amp but the harmonies are a bit weak. I've been using TC Helicon harmonizers for probably 10 years (Perform VG and Play Acoustic). I guess I've been spoiled. The harmonies are much cleaner and pleasing to the ear with the TC Helicon.

  • This amp is so powerful

I especially like the harmonize and looping features included on this amp. And I like that the two channels allow me to play and sing through just one piece of equipment.

After years of searching for the right tone on other amps, I bought this one. First time I turned it on I knew it was a keeper. I have a taylor 314, and a 814 that sounded thin when plugged in. All of the harshness and string squeaking was replaced with the true tone of the guitars. Tried my Emerald X-20 carbon fiber and was amazed. Just for fun I plugged in my Ernie Ball Cutlass,,,,It never sounded better! This amp will make you sound better than you really are.
