best mini amp ever

I've tried quite a few other set ups for playing outside/busking, but the Blackstar Fly 3 with extension cabinet is my favorite for sure. Putting this whole little amp stack in another housing (I put mine in a nine inch deep suitcase) helps the bass response and volume of this thing, makes the sound fuller. I play a Danelectro Hodad Baritone guitar (strung with Bass VI strings and tuned a whole octave down from standard guitar) so much of the low end is lost, but the responsiveness of this amplifier is amazing, and it's got a fantastic tone as well. I only use one pedal to push it a little bit, and that's a Joyo Compressor (cheap but very effective.) This is one of my favorite amplifiers regardless of size. I can play extremely fast overdriven licks with a low bass E string and the amp responds better than anything else I've tried. The onboard delay is great also, I love it. The aux jack and headphone jack are likewise great features. If Blackstar made this with a rechargeable lithium battery pack and a quarter inch cabinet jack it would be still more amazing. Fingers crossed.
Unbeatable when playing with acoustic players

I bought the single speaker unit after being unhappy with a Fender micro and the GC manager recommended the Blackstar. Home run. I was so pleased with it, I also bought a Blackstar bass micro amp with the extension speaker. Both are superb. My primary use for this guitar amp is for when I go cruising and/or when I know I'm going to perform with acoustic players. This micro amp fits into a day pack along with my laptop and Steinberger Spirit guitar (which I love, also from GC). The flexibility of battery or AC power is wonderful. The sound for such a small unit is superb. Night before last I played my UBass with the Blackstar micro bass amp & extension speaker at a uke (two of which were amplified) jam and my bass was plenty loud enough. Can this amp keep up with big amps? Of course not. But it's perfect for certain situations ... and that's why I have a collection of various guitars, basses and amps.

Amazing little portable amp. Best sound I've ever heard from a mini. Great sound, multitude of variations available for any sound your looking for. Best thing on the market to date!
I give it a 3 1/2 stars. Read my comments before you buy.

Overall I give it 3.5 stars. It's very convient and has great delay. I also love the AUX input (that's why I purchased it). It needs better low end capability and, mostly, a little more sharpness to the overdrive channel. Overall it's good. I'm happy with it. But I use mine as a permanent fixture on my back patio table (live in southern Cal) to practice writing/learning new songs, as well as a speaker to plug my phone into for playing my playlist.
Worth the extra money

As someone who plays in local bands and puts lots of time and effort into learning different gear on all fronts from live sound to professional studio recording, this little package has got to be the biggest bang for buck you could ever hope for. Small, easy to set-up, great volume and tone clarity on clean and OD channels; this thing is phenomenal! The digital tape delay is a big bonus but for most applications is best left set to modest settings. Instead of a regular tone knob on most other minis and obviously too small to practically have a 3 band eq, blackstar only includes their signature ISF knob. I highly recommend getting well acquainted with the functioning of this feature as it's the backbone of getting the different tones from the amp. I've used mine with a mic on it for my acoustic duo for electric guitar parts and performs amazingly. Not sure about full band setups but if done well I'm sure it could be done in a pinch of you absolutely had to!

My daughter and I are learning together. Would this combo pack work for us?
This isn't designed for two instruments. The one unit is an amp and the other is an extension cabinet to that amp. The amp itself has only one input. Please give us a call if you would like some help 855-770-3373submitted3 years ago
