Behringer VT999 Vintage Tube Monster Classic Tube Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal

Description
The Behringer VT999 Vintage Tube Monster Overdrive Pedal brings real tube tone to your pedalboard. With a genuine 12AX7 preamp tube, this stompbox produces anything from warm, bluesy tube overdrive to heavy distortion tones. The 12AX7 imparts the VT999 with natural compression and rich, complex harmonics just like a tube amp. Dial in as much gain as you want with independent overdrive and master volume controls. Unlike solid-state pedals, the VT999 responds like a real tube amp, cleaning up beautifully when you roll back your guitar's volume knob.
Dial in Vintage Tube Warmth or Heavy Distortion
Thanks to the 12AX7 preamp tube, the VT999 can conjure up a wide range of overdriven tones. Lower the gain and bring up the master volume to generate warm, even-order harmonics for bluesy tube breakup. Crank the gain knob for a roaring distortion with singing sustain and controllable feedback. The separate overdrive and master volume knobs allow you to push the 12AX7 tube as hard as you want without overloading your amp. Just set the overdrive to your desired level of grit and use the master to boost the overall output.
Noise Gate Keeps Your Signal Quiet
The last thing you want mingling with your cranked tube tones is noise. The VT999 combats hiss with its integrated, switchable noise gate. It gently squelches any unwanted noise when you're not playing. Set the threshold control to only mute noise during pauses in your playing. You get tube tone without the tube hiss.
Shape Your Sound with 3-Band EQ
Tailor your tube overdrive tones with the VT999's 3-band EQ. Boost treble to cut through a mix or add sizzle to your leads. Dial back the highs for a smoother, darker sound. Scoop mids to go from bluesy and warm to modern and aggressive. Boost lows to make your guitar fill out a mix or increase the thump. The EQ offers immense tonal flexibility.
True Bypass for Transparent Tone
When disengaged, the VT999 routes your signal through a true bypass circuit that maintains complete signal integrity. You get zero coloration or loss of tone. The VT999 only comes to life when you step on it, giving you authentic tube tone and preserving your straight guitar sound.

Incredible pedal at a really affordable price.
I got this almost 2 years ago and i love it... why? Because it is extremely versatil, it can go from an overdrive sound to a metal distortion. Pretty easy to use, noise gate function is alright. It uses one 12ax7 tube which gives really good power, however i have read that it sounds better with a 12at7 or even a 12au7, haven't tried yet but i will pretty soon. Stock tube sounds quite well, i placed an EH 12ax7 and it sounds great as well. I do really recommend it, i think it has a better sound than most of the distortion pedals in the market. YOU DON'T NEED BOUTIQUE PEDALS TO SOUND REALLY GOOD ! If you see one of these, try it, im pretty sure you will love it. If i ever lose it or get stolen, i would definitely go and buy another one. Behringer has a bad reputation about his pedals, quality, sound , but this one makes the difference, IT IS my main distortion pedal. The only CON that i can mention about this pedal is the BLUE LED that tells you that the pedal has power ( because it has two leds, Blue one that's for "HEY I HAVE POWER" and the Red one is that the distortion it's actuall ON) It's to bright, but not a big deal, i placed some black tape and TADA! that worked !

Returned this thing
This thing was not what I expected at all. Based on the reviews I really thought I had found a diamond in the rough only to be very let down by this product. This device made everything I plugged into it sound horrible. I tried three different tubes in it. 2 brands of 12AX7C & a 12AT7. Nothing helped this over-hyped chunk of junk. I gave it two weeks of daily experimentation & returned it.

My #1 Pedal

So here's the deal: pedals are subject to your overall rig (guitar, amp, pedal order). I have the VT999 with a swapped tube, as well as a handful of 5 star review dirt pedals. All part of my board. Bottome line, I keep coming back to the VT999 for my base tone, from clean on the edge of breakup to overdriven. In the end, the other pedals are great too, and each serves a different function. But the VT999 is the one pedal I wouldn't swap out, even though it's huge! But with a built in noise gate and 3 band eq, it's justified. One final word, 9v isn't enough to push the tube, therefore, keep in mind that the tube inside is not actually providing distortion, but rather tone shaping. If you want real tube distortion in a pedal, try the Friedman motor city drive or something similar.

It's grown on me! Change the tube, it makes a big difference. I use this with my SS Orange Amp and it is warmer than the stock distortion. It also has a slightly better responsiveness in terms of "feel" than my dirt pedals on their own (ocd, mxr, and mini TS). However, doesn't seem to stack well with them and I use an EHX tube compressor to warm those babies up, so it's all on par. Overall, I'd say a good pedal to pair with an SS amp that isn't a modeling amp, but don't expect it to act like a tube preamp at low gain levels.

I bought the Behringer VT999 to use with a Fender Twin Reverb. I plugged it in and gave it some time to let the preamp tube warm up. By itself, the overdrive was not what I was looking for; farty/flabby kind of overdrive tones. But when I plug into my Fulltone Full Drive pedal, then into the VT 999 that is the sound I was looking for. The VT999 adds a lot of creamier/warmer kind of overdrive tone to the Fulltone pedal that both seem to lack on their own.

This pedal sounds great and its fun to experiment with different tubes and get different sounds. Buy one and you won't regret it. I wouldn't put it on my pedalboard because it's so big but I have lots of fun using this pedal. I put in a IN 12au7 tube and it sounds great, the stock tube sounded great too tho.

Like many people, I did the research online and read a number of reviews. I did what many people said to do, which was to replace the stock tube. I replaced it with a Groove Tube 12ax7 and what a difference. I bought the pedal two days ago and used it on the gig last night. The true test is live performing and this pedal was amazing. Warm, rich, full tones with a super smooth top end. It has a 3 band eq and it allows you to really dial it in. I used the pedal with an SG and a Strat and I was able to set them up with ease and get everything from Zepplin to Eric Johnson. The reviews are definitely spot on about the size of the pedal but once I heard it, I didn't mind the size at all. The pedal is great anyway but for this price, it's a steal. Well worth it to have this in your arsenal.
