Behringer ADI21 V-Tone Acoustic Driver Direct Recording Preamp/D.I. Box

Description
The Behringer ADI21 lets you shape your acoustic guitar's tone with natural acoustic tone shaping. With its 3-band EQ with sweepable mids, it effectively eliminates the harsh harmonics of piezo pickups for a smooth, rich unplugged sound. Blend the amount of modeled tone with your instrument's direct output using the intuitive Blend control. The resulting sound is more natural with added warmth.
Shape Your Tone Naturally With 3-Band EQ
The onboard 3-band EQ with sweepable mids gives you precise tone shaping to keep feedback under control. Cut or boost lows, highs and sweepable midrange frequencies to craft your ideal acoustic tone. Dial in the exact EQ curve you need for each venue or recording scenario.
Blend Direct and Modeled Tone
The Blend control lets you mix your instrument's direct piezo pickup signal with the ADI21's proprietary microphone/tube emulation circuitry. Blend just the right amount of natural tube warmth into your direct tone. Use it as a straight D.I. box or combine it with amp modeling—the choice is yours.
Eliminate Harsh Piezo Pickup Tones
The ADI21 works to tame the notoriously harsh treble and thin bass of piezo pickups. The modeling circuitry adds back the missing warmth and saturation for a studio-mic'd sound from your acoustic's pickup. Your audience will hear a rich, balanced tone even at high stage volumes.
Clean Noise-Free Operation
With both 1/4" TS and XLR outputs, you can send a low-impedance signal to the PA or mixer. The ground lift switch eliminates hum and buzz from ground loops. Run it off a 9V battery or optional 9V DC power supply (sold separately) for clean, noise-free operation.

Love it!
I have had this for a couple of weeks. I had read several reviews before ordering this item. Playing an acoustic straight through an amp just doesn't cut it. I have an Epiphone CE Chet Atkins model. The main issue I had with this guitar was tonal quality. A few months ago the preamp just quit. It took some time and a lot of effort to locate a preamp that would work on this model. While I was doing this I ordered the V-Tone but it was on back order, so I had to wait a little over a month for it to arrive. I got the V-Tone a few days before I got my CE Guitar problem solved. I ran another acoustic through this preamp and I was very pleasantly surprised at the tone, volume and response. When you have been looking for a particular sound for over 20 years and you finally find it, well, you can image the tears of joy! There may be other preamps that do a better job but for the money and for my listening pleasure this fills the bill! I have had Behringer effect pedals and have been very satisfied with the quality and the price. With the reviews and my own personal experience in the past with this brand, I was pretty confident that I would be a happy customer.

Inexpensive pedal. But batteries...
Purchased one for my wife to use on stage. No initial worries, as we have lots of Behringer gear that, well, just works. This, however, is a dog. Given a new battery or a mains power supply, this DI box is at least equal to any other we use. Yes, it's plastic, but good quality stuff. Nice options on sounds. Would I buy another if this was stolen? No. I'd probably give the thief $5 just to make sure we never see it again. The big problem, and job stopper on this, is that it chews batteries for breakfast. Literally; if you put a new 9V in at breakfast time, it'll want another one for lunch. Even if nothing is plugged in, it will drain a battery in less than a day. I don't quite know how they managed that, but they did. Yes, you can power it with a wall-wart - but it does NOT accept phantom power. So it would be one more wire cluttering the stage up, and one more thing to remember in the gig bag. For us, that's a job-stopper, when we compare it to the other DI boxes we have available.

I needed something to provide more volume from my acoustic sound hole pickup (Seymour Duncan Woody). I can't compare it to something more expensive but it suits what I needed it for! The plastic switch is fine but I keep it on always so it's not too much of a problem for me. #sweepstakes
