BOSS XS-1 Poly Shifter | Rapid Retuning, Flawless Sound

BOSS XS-1 Poly Shifter | Rapid Retuning, Flawless Sound

Description

Sometimes a song takes you somewhere your instrument's tuning can’t follow—until now. The BOSS XS-1 Poly Shifter effects pedal gives you instant access to alternate tunings, harmonized leads, and octave-layered textures, all from a single compact stompbox. Its ±7-semitone/±3-octave range, Balance blend knob, and dedicated Shift and Mode switches make on-the-fly changes fast and intuitive. Engage Detune mode for lush, chorus-like shimmer, or connect an expression pedal for sweeping pitch bends in real time. External footswitches let you recall up to three custom setups or toggle momentary effects during performance. Built with 24-bit AD/32-bit DA conversion and Adaptive Focus technology, the XS-1 delivers studio-grade clarity while keeping your tone natural and responsive—no matter how far you shift.

A Massive Range of Pitch-Shifting Power

With ±7 semitone shifts and up to three octaves up or down, the XS-1 covers everything from subtle detune to synth-like extremes. The new BOSS algorithm ensures every nuance of your playing stays clean and musical, even under complex voicings or heavy gain. Meanwhile, Detune mode adds ±20-cent modulation for lush chorus-style movement, while semitone steps make it easy to dial in drop tunings or harmonized leads. Whether you’re a guitarist or bassist, this pedal expands your range without changing instruments.

Intuitive Control, Built for Creativity on the Fly

The BOSS XS-1 puts precision control at your feet, turning complex pitch moves into simple, musical gestures. The Balance knob blends dry and shifted signals for natural layering, and the Shift and Mode toggles instantly select up, down or detune operation. You can configure the footswitches for latching or momentary performance, or connect an expression pedal to sweep seamlessly through intervals in real time. External footswitches let you recall favorite setups or jump between tunings mid-song—perfect for live performers who need flexibility on stage.

Rugged BOSS Build and Studio-Grade Sound

Under the hood, the XS-1 combines 24-bit AD/32-bit DA conversion with Adaptive Focus technology for pristine tone and ultra-low noise. Its buffered bypass maintains signal strength across large pedalboards, and its durable chassis withstands years of touring abuse. Powered by 9V battery or adapter, the XS-1 is light, compact and ready for action.

Honestly, only exploring the features so far. But I see the possibilities of this pedal and am excited to see what I can do with it.

  • Can't Get 100% Wet

Bought this to not have other guitars just for tuning down and dealing with different string gauges and the setups. At first it worked well when doing distorted power chords but the higher strings you could still hear some of the dry signal at 100% wet on the blend. No change between battery and plugged in. Back it goes.

  • A convenient tool to have around.

Much cheaper than buying other guitars and less of a hassle than changing the setup of your current guitar if it's even possible.
