PS-6 Overview

Description
The BOSS PS-6 Harmonist Pitch Shifter effects pedal delivers lush harmonies, pitch shifting and radical pitch bends at your feet. Armed with four intelligent pitch-shift algorithms and real-time three-voice harmony, the PS-6 invites guitarists to explore creative new dimensions of sound.
Craft Natural-Sounding Harmonies
The PS-6 makes harmony creation simpler than ever. Select a key and major/minor mode, dial in the interval with the Shift knob and lush harmonies emerge. Complex voicings are rendered with lifelike quality thanks to high-performance DSP. Harmony mode provides 2nd, 3rd, and 5th intervals for rich, multi-voice backing.
Bend and Shift Into New Territory
The all-new Super Bend mode produces dramatic pitch sweeps over a seven-octave range (-3 to +4 octaves). Sculpt swooping sounds in real time using the pedal's knob or an external expression pedal. Pitch Shifter mode offers shifted voices one octave up, one fifth down and detuned voices for shimmering, arpeggiated textures.
Dial in Detuned Depth
PS-6 provides detuned voices slightly above and below the direct signal for a dimensional, natural chorus-like effect. Adjust the amount of detuning with the Shift knob for subtle thickening or seasick pitch warbling. Detune mode broadens your tone with stereo-widening modulation in a user-friendly way.
Road-Ready and Built to Last
Like all BOSS compact pedals, the PS-6 is constructed to endure years of performance and travel. Its metal chassis and footswitches stand up to constant stomping, while the battery door provides easy access when powering up for the gig. The PS-6 invites guitarists to explore creative new dimensions of sound.

Just AMAZING!!!
this is one of the coolist toy a guitarist can have have in his rig. if your the only guitarist and always wanted to have some play harmony with you while leading, get this bad boy. its just beautiful. the way it just captures the sound from your guitar makes it really sound like there is a second guitar or 3 guitar players playing together. and sounds so tight together tht whatever u do it does. its just really fun to mess aroud with also. have fun with it. =)

Nice but not for me
I gave it a try, but I didn't care for it. I had music in school so determining what key a song is played in isn't a problem. I just wasn't impressed with it. I returned it and picked up TC Electronics "Gravy Chorus" which I really like. Guitar Center was great with their customer service. They exchanged it no questions asked. It might be ok for someone else. The 3 part harmonies are ok. Just not a pedal I would use a lot to justify the expense.

I use this playing live gigs and adding harmony to my leads. Great for major and minor scale harmonies but still looking for THAT harmony pedal that will provide harmonies to a blues pentatonic scales. Easier to use than the TC Electronic Quintessence.

So - a few things here. I've bought a couple of these all at GC over the past several years. While it does have "pitch shifting" I don't really think that's where these shine. As indicated in the name the "harmony" function covers so much ground and offers a lot of killer sounds and flexibility. Also, and this is big: the "detune" function is really top notch. Used to be a time where you could only get this type of "detune" thing out of rack gear. Being able to get direct about "cents" as well as the balance of clean and effected signal really is amazing. It's not like turning on a cheap nasty chorus pedal - you can get really subtle and sophisticated with it. To me the detune function is worth the price alone. I plan on grabbing a third one for my new board as pitch shifting, detune, and harmony in one pedal really can't be beat.

The pedal sent to me was used not new as listed. The bushing for the screw to access the battery was torn and the serial number has been torn off. The pedal works fine but should have been listed as used.
Great effect!

Versatile from chorus doubling sound to harmonizing to dive bombing pitch shift. Great for the solo boost i was looking for.

Can it be used with a bass guitar?
Yes, the BOSS PS-6 Harmonist can be used with a bass guitar, but with some caveats: What works well: Pitch shifting, detuning, and some harmonizer functions work fine with bass, especially for moderate intervals. It can add creative effects like fifths or octaves, and the S-BEND (Super Bend) mode can create dramatic pitch sweeps. Limitations with bass: Tracking may become less accurate on very low notes, especially below low E (41 Hz), which is common for pitch shifters not specifically designed for bass. Complex harmonies or fast playing on low notes might cause glitchy or laggy responses. Tips for better performance: Play clean, well-articulated notes. Use a high-pass EQ before the pedal or stay mostly on higher strings if you want more accurate harmony tracking. Consider placing it early in your signal chain, ideally right after the bass (or wireless receiver) for best input clarity.submitted8 months ago

Should it go into the front of the amp, or into the Send/Return effects loop? Either way, should it be the first or last pedal in the chain?
This effects pedal would work and sound the same in front of the amp or in the effects loop. It would also sound the same no matter the position in the pedal chain.submitted6 years ago

Can you use this pedal to eliminate tuning guitar down half step?
Yes. One of the settings is detune.
