Guitar Center will once in a while have an employee who really knows their stuff! Sammy was the premier example. He's well known in town as he's Always working. He's mighty respected in the Professional Audio circle. His presence in just about every venue speaks volumes. He also teaches at the college/university level. A few years back I had just gotten the recording bug. I returned to drumming after leaving them for over 25 years. A ton of things have changed. Wow! I'm mighty fluent in Location Sound for film and video. Studio recording is a different element. I needed a condenser that was to be used as an overhead and for acoustic/vocals. I record live, the whole band, No tracks, no clicks, etc. I'm after a virgin recording. Rather than EQ I like to play with mic placement first. Mics to mixer to recorder. Simple. Sammy told me of how he was loaned the AD51 to play with. What he learned went into my ears. I bought one to try in my very, very large living room where I record. I was amazed at what this Oregon-produced mic gave me. The pads are the bomb!! Multi-uses galore. The AD51 is what I've been after since I got the recording bug. I wanted a mic that wouldn't paint a color. I want as original as possible. Remember, mic placement is King! So is a top-grade cable. Such clean and welcome recordings with the absolute minimum or no EQ at all. What I heard is what was recorded! WOW!! I now own four! It's unbelievable the many uses I have gotten the AD51 to do. It is also an outstanding location mic too! This mic deserves to be in every studio. The highs and mids are equal or better than mics six times the cost! I placed it to a vintage Marshall practice amp, I dropped the highs, YIKES! What a killer sound that could be played countless ways in post. If you're after that virgin sound and don't wanna pay the price of Royers, Teles or Neumans and want to land well within that same ballpark the Audix AD51 is the mic for you! Thanks GC for hiring Sammy!
