Audio-Technica M4000S

I have had this mic for about a year now and it works great. The sound is really good for acoustic instruments and very good for vocals. They are extremely durable high quality mics that work perfectly for the beginner or anyone really. They sound very loud on a recording even if you are about two or so inches back the warm and rich tone is one that you really can not top for a price like this All in all I suggest for any one to buy these mics and if you can afford a little more buy the three or two pack ones because they come with cables and stands which are also very helpful. Audio Technica has done it again.

I have used various mics with my acoustic-electric set up and none come close to the M4000s. It is very clear, and clean, and the response is fantastic for the "not-screaming-loud-ambient-sound" applications. I have tried SM-58's (among many others) in this set up, and it just doesn't compare. However, in a full rock band situation I have used the M4000s, and it is really hard to control, and just not a good fit. In my full band, I use an SM-58 and it is exactly that: an SM-58 (and perfect for that application). In the right atmosphere the M4000s rules.

Tried three of these a few years ago. They're all still going strong. So we dumped all our old miscellaneous mics and went with all M4000S mics. Good sound, well-built, and we're happy with their durability.

  • Good value. Low top end equals low feedback.

This is a well built cheesy little mic. It's so bad, it's good. The bass and mids are good. The high end is limited (12 kHz), so it doesn't have the automatic definition and clarity that some of its competitors have. This would be a good choice, in a mic, where you are trying to control feedback, or want something in a mix that is less piercing on the high end (think background singers, or shrill female voices.) For guys who like a crooner style of singing (Jim Morrison, Frank Sinatra, etc.) this mic would do fine. It has a rich low end. I'd also recommend this mic if you want to leave your good one at home, and take this one on a gig. With a proper EQ and reverb setup on a PA system, and a good singer, this mic will do fine.
