Aston Origin - A brief story

Introducing: Aston Origin

Both Sides Of The Booth - Recording Horns - Sharing Tales, Tips, and Techniques
Description
The Aston Origin is a high-performance cardioid condenser utilizing a 1 in. gold-evaporated capsule. Its hand-selected capsule is teamed with high-end transformerless circuitry using only the best components, the same ones you’ll find in boutique microphones costing far more. Origin is versatile enough to use with most instruments and excels on acoustic guitar and vocals.
Wave-Form Mesh Head
The Origin features Aston’s signature waveform mesh head. This unique design delivers an unprecedented degree of protection for the mic capsule. Its shock-resistant waveform design allows the head of the mic to bend upon impact, and then return to its normal position without any damage to the capsule itself. It also offers a degree of off-axis rejection, helping to eliminate unwanted artifacts from your recordings.
Built-In Pop Filter
Aston’s vocal condenser microphones have an exclusive mesh-knit pop filter built into the waveform head. The random weave allows sound to pass while virtually eliminating unwanted plosives at the source. It also shields against multiple wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation, making it ideal in sensitive electronic applications. This completely encapsulating, single piece, mesh cage is formed in stainless steel, so won’t rust with use, and can even be removed and washed.
End Caps
Yet another unique design element of the Aston Origin is the use of custom-molded end caps with integrated XLR and stand adaptor. Because the internal shock absorption system is so good, you can mount the microphone directly to a stand via this built-in, interchangeable thread adapter. The design also makes Aston microphones easy to repair and maintain.
Chassis
Part of the four hours to give it a very hard-wearing, and extremely beautiful, finish. To perfect the look, each microphone is separately engraved with its legends, and the Aston brand mantra, “The art of performance.”

Fantastic microphone, regardless of the price
This microphone is nothing short of incredible, especially given the price. It is a beautiful piece of art in your hand. It feels solid and well-built. It has the most uniquely beautiful finish I've ever seen on a microphone before, but its sound is where it really separates itself from the pack -- It is smooth, full and detailed. I'm especially a fan of the low midrange on the Aston. It is an absolute wonder on acoustic guitar, in my opinion. The fingerpicking a good acoustic sounds warm and vibrant. And the Origin handles vocals beautifully too. I've needed very little EQ when tracking vocals with the Origin. I ended up buying another Origin and used them as overheads. The Astons create big gorgeous drums. I own and have used a lot of excellent mics. Telefunken ELAM 251, U47, U67, AKG C12, 414 ULS, AEA N22 are some of my favorites. Each has its specific use given the particular recording situation. The Aston absolutely hangs in the pack with those aforementioned mics. I'm really amazed and happy that someone has finally really hit the ball out of the park with this mic. If you are considering a good versatile cardioid LDC for your studio arsenal, the Aston Origin is a no-brainer.

No warranty!!!
This is a great sounding mic definitely better then anything in its price range. This mic can compete with some of the best mics when it comes to sound quality. The reason I gave the mic a 1 star is because my mic worked perfect for about 5 months then it started making a humming noise. At first I thought it was my room or another piece of equipment. I have 4 mics this is the only one making that sound and again it never made any humming noises for the first 5 months. My mic is still under warranty so I was just gon send it in and get a new one right!!. Not that easy the only number you can call is a number in Santa barbra California which is the distribution center but they never answer or return messages. I emaild support no response. New mic new company I get that but they have no real support in the us I have no way to use my warranty to get a new one.

Good sound quality, BUT there's only one way to screw it to mic pedestal, making it not versatile.

I am using it for home recording. I have an mxl 90 that I have been using. This mic seems like a better sound, like more presence.
