About Antares:

Antares Audio Technologies was founded in 1990 by Dr. Harold (Andy) Hildebrand, who worked as a research scientist before returning to one of his first loves, music, studying music composition at the Shepard School of Music at Rice University.

While studying at Rice, “Dr. Andy” encountered what was, at the time, considered an intrinsic limitation of the digital sampling process—the inability to create seamless "loops" in samples that contained multiple instrumentalists. Never one to shy away from a challenge, Dr. Andy set about finding a solution. Utilizing cutting-edge DSP technology drawn from the geophysics industry in which he'd previously worked, he soon developed a new looping technique that did indeed succeed in "doing the impossible." Seeing a market for his new technology, he formed Antares (then called Jupiter Systems) to further develop and market the program. The program, called Infinity, quickly became the premier looping tool for professional sound designers, and has remained so until this day.

With the success of Infinity, Dr. Andy was able to look to the emerging market for software plug-ins. Continuing to draw on his background in geophysics-based DSP technology, he developed and introduced MDT (Multiband Dynamics Tool), one of the first successful Pro Tools plug-ins. This was followed by JVP (Jupiter Voice Processor), SST (Spectral Shaping Tool) and, in 1997, Auto-Tune, a program that corrects pitch problems in vocals and other solo instruments. Auto-Tune became an instant phenomenon, firmly establishing Antares' reputation as a developer of truly astonishing DSP-based products.

In late 1999, Antares once again created a new product category with the Antares Microphone Modeler, a plug-in that allows any reasonable quality microphone to sound like any of a wide variety of other microphones. The Mic Modeler went on to be honored with the 2000 TEC Award as the year's Outstanding Achievement in Signal Processing Software.

Antares has continued to innovate, with newer generations of products packing more processing power and expanding the capabilities of their vocal and harmony processing hardware, as well as developing new effects that will inspire a new generation of musicians and producers.
