Analysis Plus Pro Power Oval Power Cables take advantage of computer simulation to create a patented, hollow oval design that provides a low-inductance cable that's low-noise without being stiff or bulky. Analysis Plus cables offer super-low noise voltage to reduce background noise to a minimum. This is extremely important during quiet music passages, if you want to hear subtle details (which is important for classical music fans and for lovers of live music).

When manufacturers design power cords they use massive cables to reduce the noise voltage on the cable. The noise voltage that occurs on the cable is related to L (inductance) and di/dt (the rate of change in the current). You can reduce L by using larger-gauge wire but you don't get much bang for your buck because it's a log function. What this means is that as you keep increasing the gauge of the wire, you don't get much improvement for your effort. This is why you see very heavy and stiff wires used in power cords. It's not uncommon to have seen some power cords that are so big and stiff that the CD player connected to them is literally lifted off the ground.

Another thing people may not realize about low-frequency noise is that the thin aluminum shield found on many power cords does nothing to reduce this problem. The best way to reduce low-frequency noise on cables is to reduce the loop area. From Analysis Plus' computer simulations and measurements, they have found that their patented, hollow oval cables do a great job at reducing loop area. With their hollow oval design, Analysis Plus' Pro Power Oval cables have the lowest noise voltage Analysis Plus has seen.

For higher frequencies, their silver-plated, copper-braided shield does an excellent job. Analysis Plus has used an open braid design that works much like the window on your microwave oven: you can see through the window but the radiation stays where it belongs.

The Analysis Plus Pro Power Oval cable uses better-than-hospital-grade plugs that have Perma-Lock terminals; large, high spring-rate contacts; glass-filled, high-temperature, nylon-front housing; polycarbonate rear housing; and a stainless hardware mated to a true balance cable for lower common-mode noise. The cable design has hot and cold leads that are symmetrical, plus a full shield around the hot and cold conductors to eliminate EMI/EMC (electromagnetic compatibility/electromagnetic interference). The cable also has tremendously low inductance for the lowest noise voltage of nearly any pro power cord. Applications for this power cord can include instrument amps, power amps, computers, keyboards, mixers, lighting, or any other power cord device with an IEC connection.
